My Favorite Winter Accessories

I found it so beautifully ironic that during a photo shoot for winter accessories it began to snow. Going through the pictures you can see the snow slowly getting heavier. So sorry for the random white blurs, but I personally love it.

Let's go through each detail one by one. Everything was bought years ago (except one item) so there aren't any direct links to products, but I'll do the best I can to find matches.

I love all my winter hats but I'm particularly fond of the ear one. I had been asking for it and Chris gave it to me for Christmas! It's new, but I've worn it a lot. I also love the one with headphones. I was listening to the Heroes & Villains playlist on my Spotify account. I loved creating this post, I love winter accessories even if I don't always love winter, and I hope you all loved it as well. My Life Is Different - Sunday Scrapbook

Hello friends! "Sunday Scrapbook" is a segment where I share photos and stories from the past week. And while I'm pretty sure in the past year I've only done 2 other posts, it's a segment I enjoy a lot. Hopefully we'll be doing more in the future.

I spent this past week unemployed, sitting in my apartment stressing over Heroes & Villains and moving, both of which basically happened in the same day.

Yesterday Heroes & Villains premiered on my blog! I'm not going to talk too much about it in this post, but if you want to learn more you can find all the information you need by CLICKING HERE. Basically it's a series of short stories I've written specifically for my blog. I've been working on it all year long so it's been a big project for me. Friday I loaded up a lot of my stuff onto a trailer and put it into storage. Then what we didn't put in storage was taken to my parents house. Then Chris and I spent hours cleaning our old apartment, finally left at midnight, and arrived at our new (temporary) home at 1:30. So yeah, Saturday. Big day.

And I'm still tired from the whole thing so here's our midnight picture of us leaving apartment #4 in Logan, Utah for forever, completely unedited because of my exhaustion. And just look at my hair in that picture. I'm still that level of exhaustion.

My post announcing our move was called "The Biggest Change" because leaving Logan is honestly the biggest change I've made in my life in a long time. Already I'm seeing how different my life is going to be just by leaving Logan.

Logan has been great to me. Logan gave me my soulmate so I will always love the place for introducing me to him. But it was time for us to leave. We're both very happy with our decision and anxious/excited to see what will come.

If you're wondering, I'm not actually unemployed. I do have a job lined up, I just wasn't working this past week... which was super nice. Someday I want to be able to just write all day like I did most days this week. Writing is the real job I want. Someday I'm going to get it. Just you wait and see.

I want to thank all my wonderful blog readers/friends for being so supportive of our move. I had mentioned a lot of it had to do with my miscarriage, and the love I've gotten since that tragedy in my life has been greatly appreciated. My internet friends (you) are some of my greatest friends and I feel so blessed daily to get to interact with you.

Well, I know this is a shorter "Sunday Scrapbook" post, but the lack of sleep I've had is not doing me any good. I have some relaxing to do.

Daycation in Pineview, Utah

Last Friday Chris and I spent most our time at Pineview Reservoir. We swam, ate wonderful food, and did a lot of searching for Pokemon. I forgot to take pictures the second day we were there, with  jet ski and paddle boards, but here are the pictures I did take from our "daycation."

My Trip to St. George

For this post I'm starting at the very beginning, which means Valentine's Day morning. It all began with me waking up and getting ready like it was a normal day, because at the time it was. I've never been a fan of Valentine's Day so the fact that it was February 14th didn't faze me (except that I was happy for my parents because it's their anniversary).

When my husband woke up he hurried and got ready and we decided to head to Kneaders for French Toast. I was super excited because I've been wanting Kneaders French toast since forever but things always come up and we could never get there in time for breakfast. But this time we did and it was delicious!!

P.S. All the pictures were taken with my new phone and are shaped weird, but they honestly turn out better than if I take them with my camera.

Then I had class to get to and Chris went off to go find my Valentine's Day gifts, which included beautiful earrings, chocolate covered strawberries and a super cute card! It was simple, but honestly, we both knew we were going to St. George and we're trying to save up our money so it was perfect.

After class Chris went and got his new driver's license because he's 25 and old now. Then we ate at Carl's Jr. and started driving through the snowy canyon to my in-law's house.

Ugh! Worst picture ever! And why is it a different size? I don't get it! 

Once at my in-laws, we transferred all our stuff to their car and we took of for St. George!! I was super excited to get away from the stress of school and just relax! On the way there we stopped at a gas station/petting zoo where I found a souvenir with my name spelled right!!! It's honestly a rare occurrence.

We arrived in St. George late that night and we visited Chris's Grandma Joyce before heading to our hotel (which was beautiful and amazing). We fell asleep soon after in the most amazing bed and now I really want pillows like that...

The next day was MY HUSBAND'S BIRTHDAY!!!! We woke up, ate pancakes and bacon and went off to the soccer tournament! My father-in-law coaches a team of twelve-year-olds that were playing in the tournament. While there, I ran into my best friend! Her dad is a soccer ref and he was down there for the tournament and I got to talk with my best friend Lauren and her mom, which was so wonderful! I miss them so much! They are seriously like a second family to me.

After soccer we went bowling! And I sucked!! I seriously don't think I've ever done that badly before! However I think I know why. Friday in class we learned about Social Anxiety Disorder and they gave us a mini-test to see if we had it and... yeah... there's a very great chance I have it. And looking back on my life I realize just how much I really do probably have this. I don't know what it means for my future, but I suppose it's a good thing I finally figured it out. Anyways, while bowling I feel incredibly anxious and stressed because I don't like being put in the spotlight, so when I go up and bowl and they all either cheer for me or say "oh, that's alright", I get this tension throughout my body because I don't want to be the center of attention. It's always happened, but I never knew it was a part of Social Anxiety Disorder. When I'm bowling with just Chris, I don't feel that pressure because I'm so in love with him and everything is comfortable and different around him, but apparently when I'm with other people I suck at bowling.

This is my 200th post on this blog!!! So to celebrate I am going to write 200 things about myself. Wow. This may take a while...

4. I love black olives. I eat them by the can.

23. I really need to find a job because I'm getting tired of playing Plants vs. Zombies and watching "Friends" all day.

26. I'm planting flowers in our kitchen window and I'm obsessed with watching them grow.

29. I also love wearing dresses and heels, however it's difficult when your jobs require you to wear other things and walking around a freezing and snowy campus doesn't work well with dresses and heels.

31. My neighbor just brought me cinnamon rolls and I'm so happy I might eat both of them and not tell my husband they were here.

The Woman Who Could Have Potentially Ruined My Wedding For Me

I feel that this is one of the most important (and longest) posts I have written on my blog. Because it is a very (brutally) honest review of the seamstress I hired to alter my wedding dress (AKA, the most important $899 dress I've ever owned in my life).

So I was referred to Debbie Carlisle by Bridal Expressions, the store I bought my dress from (who I would highly recommend for buying a wedding or prom dress). When I first visited Debbie, I felt uneasy leaving my dress there. I was honestly worried for my dress. I didn't doubt her sewing abilities. I was simply put off by her small and filthy sewing room.

I will say, she is a great seamstress. The work she did on my dress was beautifully done... it just wasn't what I wanted. I specifically didn't want the Standard Mormon Sleeves, but that's what she gave me. I tried to accept the fact that it wasn't exactly what I wanted, but I couldn't take it. So I called her and told her I wanted to meet with her again to show her a picture of what I wanted and we could see if we could change it.

(By the way, I had tried my hardest to tell her what I wanted the first time around. But she kind of put my ideas down and just did her own thing, and I'll return to this later)

Our telephone conversations went a little bit like this:

"Hey Debbie! This is Kaylee. I was thinking about my dress all weekend and it just isn't exactly what I wanted. Can I meet with you Wednesday to show you a picture and we'll see if we can change it?"

"How do you want it changed?"

"Well I'd like to show you a picture because I don't know if I can really explain it over the phone."

"Yeah, but I want to know how you want it."

"Well I wanted it to appear like the fabric is just draped over my shoulder, I didn't necessarily want a whole sleeve attached. And I wanted the fabric kind of gathered vertically."

"I specifically asked you if you wanted it gathered and you said no."

"Yes, I said no to gathering it horizontally, which is what you were saying. But I said I did want the special fabric (sorry, can't give away anything to my fiance) gathered on the sleeve vertically."

"I put the special fabric on the sleeve."

"Yes, you did. but you just laid it flat so it's barely visible..."

This conversation went on a while. Finally I convinced her to let me go in on Wednesday (today) so I could show her the picture. Lesson #1: Debbie did not seem happy to meet with me, her customer, aka, the person paying her.

So today I went in to meet with her. I brought in reinforcements as well. My cousin Desi came with me for two main reasons. 1. Desi knows how to say what's on her mind (in a good way, a very good way). Basically she wouldn't let anyone push her around (unlike me, I'll admit it, I'm a bit of a pushover). 2. Desi knows how to sew herself. She reupholstered her couches all on her own and they look fantastic. And she made her kids the cutest Halloween costumes ever.

So Desi and I met at Debbie's house. The second she came to the door, Debbie was full of attitude. So we go downstairs to her sewing room and I begin to tell her what I had originally told her about the sleeves of my dress (my $899 dress). Debbie was not happy. She complained about how she would have to take apart everything she had already done in order to do what I wanted. Lesson #2: Debbie failed to realize that I'm the bride and this is my wedding dress, I should be able to get what i want.

I tried my best to be understanding and explain to her that I wanted it the way it was in the picture. But Debbie just didn't get it. Desi started to try and explain but then Debbie started to get mad at me, blaming me for not telling her this in the first place, which, I had tried my very best to do, but she just pushed my ideas away. Lesson #3: Debbie didn't listen to my ideas. She did her own cookie-cutter 'Mormon Standard' modest sleeves, regardless of me telling her that I did not want that.

Desi began to realize more of what I wanted, so she began to suggest ways that Debbie could fix it to be the way I wanted. Debbie reflected everything after that. She continued to blame me and to push down all mine (and now Desi's) ideas. She continued to think that her way was the right way and I was wrong. Lesson #4: Debbie felt that she was right. That I (the customer, aka, the person paying her) was incorrect and what I wanted for my wedding dress was not right.

I would again like to talk about Debbie's redeeming qualities. She did do a wonderful job at creating a bodice and cap sleeves for my dress. It was perfectly lined. Her stitches were perfectly done. She is a very talented seamstress. I cannot deny that she is talented. She did a great job... but it wasn't what I wanted, and she blamed me for that mistake.

So Desi spoke up and said:

"I think we'd like to take the dress, think things over, get a better idea of what we want and then we'll let you know."

To which Debbie replied:

"I can't let you take this dress until I get paid for what I've done."

Now I understood that completely. I understand needed to be paid for the work she put into the dress. However, the total cost of alterations would have been $230 ish, and she had not yet put on the buttons and the shoulders still needed to be re-sized to fit me. When I first visited her she told me the price and I was pleased, but today when she told me how much I would owe her to take the dress, I was very disappointed.

I'm sorry, but especially where I'm leaving with my dress, unfinished and unhappy, I should not owe you $200, cash or check only (which I didn't have at the time, so Desi (my amazing wonderful cousin (more on that later)) wrote a check for (that I owe her back for)).

$200 to leave unhappy? I don't think that's right. Lesson #5: Debbie overcharged me when she didn't finish the dress and I left unhappy. I didn't seem fair. My mom and I know she did not put $200 worth of work into those sleeves in the week she spent on it. Nope.

So Desi wrote a check and we grabbed my dress and left. We then drove to Desi's house to chat. Desi was upset. She began to draw a picture.

"Is this what you wanted?" Yep. Exactly. "I can do that. And if I can't, I know someone who makes wedding dresses and she would help you out." 

So Desi and I went to Joann's, grabbed some fabric, went back to her house and Desi began to do a mock version of the sleeves I wanted. In an hour and a half Desi finished one of the sleeves. She pinned it on and it was exactly what I had wanted. EXACTLY.

I HAVE THE GREATEST COUSIN EVER!!! 

In that hour, I sat there, wearing my gorgeous wedding dress and doing this:

The above picture are all the strings and pieces of fabric that were found stuck in the bottom of my dress, due to the messy floor of Debbie's sewing room. This picture isn't even half of what's down at the bottom of my dress. There are so many strings that are nearly impossible to get out of the (practically) ten layers of my dress. Not only that, I found a safety pin. I found a hole that I'm nearly positive is from when I had to change in her teeny-tiny bathroom. Lesson #6: Debbie has a very dirty floor in her sewing room. it was not a safe environment for my dress and I am extremely upset about it.

Again, in the Orem/Provo area where Debbie lives and works, the Mormon-standard sleeves which she put on my dress were great and are probably very popular. She could do that to any dress, I'm sure of it. But the fact is, I have a very different dress and I wanted something very different. Debbie couldn't not give me different, she could only give me the standard. 

The truth is, I do not, and will not recommend Debbie Carlisle as a seamstress. The title of this post is very much true. If I would have continued to let her push my ideas down, I would have ended up with the sleeves/dress I didn't want, and it would have made me very unhappy and ruined my wedding. I think almost everyone would agree: The bride deserves to get exactly what she wants on her wedding day. 

My family has given me everything I wanted for my wedding. My venue is perfect, the flowers are perfect, the food will be perfect, the cake will be perfect, the invitations are perfect, my fiance is more than perfect and my dress is so incredibly perfect that everyone who knows me who sees me in it says, "Yes! That is so you! That is exactly the dress I would have pictured you in! It's perfect!" ...but Debbie almost ruined the dress for me. And it honestly would have ruined my wedding. 

So, my advice to newly engaged brides-to-be in the Orem/Provo area, don't visit Debbie Carlisle for alterations. I had a bad feeling the first time I left my dress with her. I should have acted upon that feeling and just left. I honestly wish I had never left my dress with her.

Death of a Salesman

Yesterday I went to a play with my parents. Just me and my parents. It was fun. It was Death of a Salesman, which I've read like four or five times in high school and college classes, but I've never seen it done live before. I LOVED IT!! It got me excited to teach high school English and be able to teach about Arthur Miller's wonderful play! :)

...but if you go with your parents, be prepared to suffer the consequences. Last night all the could talk about was Biff and Willy. This morning my dad said I looked like I had a hangover (which, when I just wake up that is probably the worst possible thing to say to me or I'll be angry at you the whole day, keep that in mind Chris) because of Death of a Salesman. My parents are weird. But I love them! They really are the best parents ever! Why else would I be living with them at twenty-two? :)

Outfits of the Week: February 25th - March 2nd

Monday I wore my black legging/jeggings and my gray jeweled top and black vest from Vanity. Not the best picture. It looked a bit better in person. 

Tuesday and Thursday I had work at the daycare. I honestly don't understand why they makes us wear white and tan for working in a daycare. I deal with messy kids and babies with dripping bottles and crayons. It's not the smartest idea to make us wear light colors. I feel like I have to clean my work clothes after every time I work. (But I have two shirts now so I can trade!)

Wednesday I supported my USU Aggies!!! I'm getting really anxious/excited to go back to school soon! I really like this shirt and I got it at Walmart!! 

Friday I wore one of my favorite outfits ever!! I wore my favorite red pants, also from Walmart (seriously people, I don't think it's necessary to spend a lot of money on clothes) and then a gray tank top that I've had forever and my new black cardigan from Target. I'm sorry I forgot to take off my ID badge from my NEW JOB and it caused a weird glare. I loved this outfit!! Note to self: wear it again!

Saturday I wore jeans and a t-shirt. I didn't even do anything to my hair really. I'm from Utah, I support the Utah Jazz even though I'm not a huge basketball fan. I spent the weekend in Logan so Chris took the picture and didn't understand the concept of a full-body picture. But I forgive him. :)

I forgot to take a picture on Sunday which is slightly depressing because I looked great! ;)

Today's Ice

Yep. I nearly died today walking to/from work. Thank goodness my neighbor decided to pick me up halfway on my way to work and my coworker found me struggling on the ice and gave me a ride home. I know such great people!

But nothing looks icy, that's the scary part. I stepped out my front door and it didn't look any different than my usual morning walk. Except it was warmer. If it's raining, not snowing, it means it's warmer. I liked that part. Except the rain froze once it hit the ground. Oh well. I survived. :)

Why Scheels Is Sort of Evil

So a Scheels opened up near my house in September. At first I was excited! It has a cool aquarium, tons of incredible clothes and a Ferris Wheel!! 

It's even where I got my favorite pair of boots!! 

See? I hugged them when I got them for my birthday! I'm wearing them right now! Favorite boots right there. 

So Scheels is a great store. It has a little bit of everything and it's huge. But here's the problem... If you want to drive anywhere near Scheels... it's nearly impossible. Scheels is constantly packed and it causes traffic problems on State Street, which lately, since I've been doing all my Christmas shopping last minute, that's been a huge problem!! 

My brother and I sat in traffic FOREVER just trying to get past Scheels. Because everyone was trying to turn into the Scheels parking lot, and they were blocking the road. Awful. Simply awful.

Okay, let's face it, I still love the darn place. I just hate how busy it always is.

Once Upon a Time.... (Part 1)

Once upon a time in Logan, Utah, there was a sad, lonely little girl who wasn't interested in dating anymore after the recent hardships and heartbreaks of the last year. She didn't want to deal with boys anymore. She didn't want to do anything anymore. She had lost her drive. She had lost her will to care about anything.

One day, close to Halloween, after a long day of work she arrived back at her apartment to find her favorite roommate with a boy at the kitchen table. They quickly invited her to spend the evening together, Boo-ing people (you give out treats to random strangers by doorbell ditching them and leaving a ghost that gives instructions to do the same to other people. It's lots of fun, maybe I'll make a sample for the blog and share it with you all... next Halloween time).

It was a fun night making cookies and masks to go Boo-ing in.

It was also the night that the girl decided she could be happy again. And while they didn't know it at the time, it was the night the girl would share a photograph with the man she would someday marry.

Snow Day

Two-ish years ago when I was living in Logan there was a storm warning for the "Storm of the Century"! I had a ballroom performance cancelled, classes were cancelled, it was a pretty big deal.... Until the storm hit. It wasn't that bad at all, and didn't last very long. My friends and I were sledding during the "storm" and even drove to Dominos for some pizza. The power didn't go out like the news had predicted, and we were all just fine.

I'm pretty sure that this snow we've been getting today is worse than that. It started snowing yesterday sometime before I woke up (at 8:00 AM) and it didn't stop until today at 2 ish. There is a ridiculous amount of snow outside! It kept me from driving to Logan today to get my ring fixed and see my fiance. When we finally could drive, we drove down the street to see tons of broken tree branches lining the road because of the amount and the weight of the snow.

While this storm can't be considered a blizzard, it was still pretty bad because of the amount of snow. If you're in Utah I hope you made any journeys through this snow safely! I hope your weekends weren't ruined by the snow, like mine. Have a great rest of the weekend!!

Month of Gratitude: Day 8

Today I am most grateful for REAL SALT LAKE!!! Why? Because my fiancee and his family are season ticket holders. And there is a game tonight. So he's coming down from Logan for the game. RSL plays at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy. Where do I live? Sandy. So he was coming down, going to the game, then coming to my house to see me, which is great because we usually only see each other on the weekends. But now, I also have a ticket. So I'm going to the game and get to see my fiancee and I'm just super happy.

Celebrating Halloween

Last week I had a very fun time with my boyfriend celebrating Halloween. Here are some picture to show you!

We carved pumpkins, went to Odyssey Dance Theater's Thriller, and went to the Pumpkin Walk in Logan. It was truly on of my favorite days ever!

Little known fact, our first was actually last Halloween. So tomorrow is the one year anniversary of our first kiss, and this Sunday (also my 22nd birthday) is the one year anniversary of us dating. This past year with him has seriously been the greatest year of my life and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with him.
