Halloween Night

Well most our candy is gone. My parents had me open the door and give out candy to the trick-or-treaters, but then got mad at me for doing it wrong. So, parents, I apologize that I gave lots of candy to the cute kids. They were just too cute!!!

So I already showed you my costume for work:

A cow!!! But I borrowed the costume so I had to give it back. So for the rest of the day I was sort of a pumpkin:

Wow! It's like I grew up between these two pictures!

My sister liked my outfit. She actually gave me this dress. She bought it for herself, but didn't like it all that much. She's a little bit bigger than I am so I used the belt to help, although if I was really going for the pumpkin look I wouldn't wear the belt. I'm not a huge fan of orange so I really don't think I would ever wear this dress other than Halloween or the days before Halloween.

So I carved a pretty amazing pumpkin, if I do say so myself. I did it all by myself! Almost cut myself a lot (I really shouldn't be trusted with knives, it's not like I try to cut myself, but me and knives don't get along very well) but I came out with no bleeding!

So if you can't tell, it's a bat inside a moon. The moon has a face so looks kind of weird in these views. But in real life it looks really good! I promise! I got it from a template on Pumpkin Masters.com (or http://www.pumpkinmasters.com/free-patterns.asp).

This is what it was supposed to look like, but 1. My pumpkin didn't have a flat surface like this one and 2. I'm pretty sure this picture is fake anyways. So I think my pumpkin turned out just fine, thank you very much. Here's my pumpkin on the porch:

My camera has issues taking pictures at night. I'm still trying to find the best settings to put it on. You would think that "Night Scene", "Candle Light" or even "Fireworks" would work for a picture of a lit pumpkin, but apparently you would be wrong.

So today is actually the one year anniversary of my first kiss with my boyfriend. Last Halloween we watched Halloween movies together on his couch and shared our first kiss. This year he was in Logan and I was in Salt Lake. I never saw him. Even worse, he was busy all day, so I hardly even got to talk with him over the phone! So today was a little depressing because I would have loved to share it with my boyfriend.

I hope you all had a fantastic Halloween! It's my favorite holiday for sure! Say goodbye to the zombie-ified cow, he's going away as soon as I'm done with this post. I love my readers!! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Working in a Daycare on Halloween!!

I've written a couple times about how much I love my job working in a daycare! It's so wonderful to get paid to play with little kids. It's my favorite thing ever and it feels that everyday just gets better. I never get sick of these wonderful and adorable kids!

So today my boss was dressed up as a veterinarian and all my coworkers and I were animals. So we had a bunny, two cats, a butterfly and...

That's right, I was a cow. :) I thought it was only fitting considering it's my favorite animal and the theme of this blog. I love this hat! I borrowed it, but I really need to get one of my own... And yes, I'm well aware that with my hair in pigtails I look like a teenager, or possibly younger, but I promise, I really am 21... and turning 22 on Sunday.

(sorry this picture is so blurry, but I had to show the full costume, including the very wonderfully created udder. The kids had fun milking that...)

So a HUGE thank you to my neighbor Nadine for letting me borrow this homemade costume. She did a fabulous job on this, huh? She made it for her son, so it was pretty big on me. It had matching pants but they were much too big so I just wore my black pants. Thanks Nadine for letting me borrow this costume! It was perfect! :)

So working with kids I saw some other fabulous costumes today!

  • 3 Snow Whites
  • 3 pirates
  • 2 Batmans
  • 2 Spidermans
  • 2 dragons
  • Some fairies
  • A couple witches
  • A candy corn witch (cutest costume ever!)
  • Captain America
  • A butterfly
  • A ballerina bear
  • Buzz Lightyear
  • A dog
  • A fireman dog
  • Princess Belle
  • Minnie Mouse
  • A panda
  • Dorothy
  • An army man
  • And a boy wearing an outfit with muscle things that sort of looked like a Power Ranger, but when i asked him what he was, he said he wasn't anything.
It was such a fun day! They took the kids "Trick-or-Treating" around the club so they all got bags of candy. Buzz Lightyear's mom even brought donuts for me and all my coworkers (which were delicious, BTW). And my boss gave us a bag of candy saying that we do a "Spook-tacular" job at work.

It was so much fun! I truly love my job! I'll be writing another post later about my other Halloween activities (opening the front door for trick-or-treaters).

Celebrating Halloween

Last week I had a very fun time with my boyfriend celebrating Halloween. Here are some picture to show you!

We carved pumpkins, went to Odyssey Dance Theater's Thriller, and went to the Pumpkin Walk in Logan. It was truly on of my favorite days ever!

Little known fact, our first was actually last Halloween. So tomorrow is the one year anniversary of our first kiss, and this Sunday (also my 22nd birthday) is the one year anniversary of us dating. This past year with him has seriously been the greatest year of my life and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with him.

Love you Christopher!

My Halloween Decorations!

So my parents allowed me to decorate their house for Halloween! They also are letting me answer the door for all the trick-or-treaters tomorrow. So here are some pictures of what I've decorated our house to look like:

The light just inside our front door!

The laundry room window!

The front window!

The picture I made working at daycare!

Our lovely giant spider!

The pumpkins I made (found here: http://whenthe-cows-comehome.blogspot.com/2012/10/halloween-craft.html) that's now sitting on our front porch!

Our front porch! ... with new modifications. There's a wind catcher thing hanging on the ceiling, my pumpkin craft (http://whenthe-cows-comehome.blogspot.com/2012/10/halloween-craft.html) is on that chair and there are two witches broomsticks propped up against the chair. The metal things on the side brick wall are surprisingly always there, as of last August. But my mom hates them, as do I. But my father insisted on hanging them up.

P.S. --Looking at all the things on my Pinterest, you can bet I will someday have the best decorated house ever!! Next year, when I live in an apartment again (not with my parents) I'll have it decorated beautifully for the wonderful holiday!! :)

Sandy

My heart goes out to all those affected by Hurricane Sandy! I've been watching footage from my peaceful home in Sandy, Utah, feeling selfish for all the wonderful things I have and I can only feel sadness and pain for all those on the East coast being affected by this superstorm.

I hope all those affected by the storm can find help, peace and happiness again soon. I know your lives will be blessed for all you've just gone through! Don't give up hope!

My heart goes to you! I'm praying for you!

Falling Over Me

Umm... so.... anyone who knows me personally, knows that I'm obsessed with Jon McLaughlin. Seriously. He is so attractive and so musically talented it just fills my heart with joy. I heart freaks out when I hear piano music, and that's his specialty. I love him. If you don't know him, please listen to him now:

So anyways, last week I was at Walmart and found Demi Lovato's album Here We Go Again on sale for $7.00. And anyone who reads this blog knows that I'm obsessed with Demi Lovato as well. If you haven't read it already, here is my list of why I love Demi Lovato: http://whenthe-cows-comehome.blogspot.com/2012/08/why-i-love-demi-lovato.html.

So... turns out these two people, quite possible my two top favorite singers WROTE A SONG TOGETHER???

So I've heard this song before. Of the 1,684,232 views on that Youtube video... maybe 232 are just from me. Yet somehow I didn't realize the background vocals were Jon McLaughlin. I'm very ashamed at this fact. When I saw Enchanted for the first time, I knew the second he started singing that So Close was sung by Jon McLaughlin. But apparently I can't tell when he's just singing background... but I'm still very upset with myself.

So enjoy the video above of my two favorite singers. And enjoy this pictures of them as well.

8 Week Get Healthy Challenge: Final Evaluation

So I'm a little late, but last week was the final week of our diet. And boy was I happy about that. I can finally eat sugar again! :) But I learned a couple things from this experience:

  • I never drank enough water during the day and now I really like to.
  • I also never ate enough fruits and vegetables during the day, but it's not hard to, and eating the right amount isn't as many as you think it is. (our challenge required us to eat 3 servings of vegetable a day with a "serving" defined as 1/2 cup)
  • Eating fruits and vegetables is delicious!
  • I love working out. I kind of already knew that, but being required to work out 5 days a week helped me remember that I need to do it more, because it just makes me happy.
  • I hate keeping a food journal. I even use My Fitness Pal (an app I use on my Kindle Fire) and it's not that exciting. It's boring and it seems pointless.
  • I love sugar. And forcing me to only eat sugar once a week isn't a good idea, but I was actually very good at following that. :)
  • My uncle loses weight way too easily and we should never go in a weight loss competition with him ever again.
  • It's a lot easier than I thought to lose weight.
Seriously, that last one is true. Because... I LOST EIGHT POUNDS DOING THIS CHALLENGE!  Yay! And now, since I'm able to eat sugar again, I've gained it all back! Just kidding, it only feels like it because I've been splurging on sugar this week. I still want to lose ten more pounds but since I didn't even notice losing the first eight pounds, it shouldn't be that hard to lose ten more. I'm setting a goal for myself to lose the ten pounds before my wedding. Which gives me a lot of time (at the rate my boyfriend is going for getting me a ring). That even means I can get through the major holidays coming up the next few months, and then lose my weight after (I'm only being realistic, I know how much candy I eat at Christmas time).

So to help me lose my ten more pounds, I'm starting my own challenge with my readers! I'm going to figure out what it's all about then post more information later. But if you want to be a part of my challenge to lose ten pounds, please leave a comment to let me know you're interested.

I love my readers! Thanks for stopping by!

E.T.

This is a video of me and two of my best friends making a music video two years ago. Yep. We wanted to be creeps... and why not be creeps while it's snowing in Logan at 2:00 AM when we should probably be sleeping or doing homework? :) Oh I love college life!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

1095 Page Views

I just wanted to say thank you to my readers. We've gone over 1000 page views! That's a lot! And the number has gone up really fast lately! So thank you to everyone who reads my blog! I really appreciate your support.

I want to also apologize for not writing as many posts this month. I'm basically working full time, I'm always exhausted... and I've run out of excuses. I'll step it up. No worries. :)

Halloween Craft!

So I made something very cool today:

And I'm here to show you how!!

Step 1: I went to Joann's and bought three fake pumpkins. These pumpkins can still be used for carving and the actually had a hole in the bottom for a candle (which was a huge help for me). They cost $24.99 HOWEVER I got them 60% off for $9.99.

Step 2: Also at Joann's I bought wooden letter that spell BOO ($1.99 each), black spray paint ($7.99), and black and gold glitter ($3.49 each). I used these brands shown below:

Step 3: I went outside with my boyfriend and got attacked by my dog. Chris then spray painted the largest and smallest pumpkin (you could just do the middle if you wanted) and the wooden letters. I let them dry outside for an hour even though the can says it can dry in 10 minutes. NOTE: I ran out of spray paint which I was very surprised about. My bottom pumpkin, while you can't tell in the picture, has some orange showing through because we ran out. But you can only really see when you look closely, and I think it gives it something special. :)

Step 4: When dried, I grabbed the wooden letter and covered them with Elmer's Glue, I used my finger to spread the glue around and then poured the glitter on top. I very carefully spread the glitter around with my fingers so it was nice and even. But, please note that a comedian once said, "Glitter is like the herpes of arts and craft supplies." As hard as you try, the glitter will get everywhere. So be careful.

Step 5: While waiting for the glue and glitter to dry, I used a hot glue gun to glue my pumpkins in a stack. They were pretty stable without the glue, but since it's going outside I wanted to be safe.

Step 6: When the letters seemed dry I shook off the excess glitter onto a newspaper and poured it back into the glitter container. Then I used the hot glue gun to glue the letters to the pumpkins. It will forever haunt me that the bottom "O" is slightly crooked. So just be very careful when your doing it, because it's stuck the way it is.

And that's it! Super easy! It takes time and some money, but it's very cute and it's a great Halloween decoration. Thanks for reading!
