I Hate Scooby Doo.

I work in a daycare. And although Scooby-Doo has been playing since before I was born, the kids still always watch it while I'm working. Not only that, they talk about how much they love Scooby-Doo. They have Scooby-Doo birthday cakes and clothes and shoes and everything! They say they love it and my coworkers always say "because everyone loves Scooby-Doo!"...

But I hate it. I hate Scooby-Doo.

Why do people like a GINORMOUS dog who's always eating and talks but emphasizes his "R"s in a really annoying way? I just don't get it. Dogs scare me. My own dog scares me and she's adorable. Scooby-Doo is huge and ugly and terrifying! I don't get why anyone would like that. I also don't get why the show has like ten billion episodes and spin-off shows and movies. It's the same freaking story every time!! It's the most unoriginal show there ever was! Every episode is exactly the same... annoying. And when I was a kid I was always afraid of monster shows, why do kids love Scooby-Doo so much, it's so creepy!!

Someone please explain to me why you like Scooby-Doo. I don't care how much the world likes it, my children are never watching Scooby-Doo in my house. Ever. Sorry Scooby-Doo, I just really hate you.

Today's Fabulous Work Day!

I write a lot about my job... BECAUSE I LOVE IT SO MUCH! Working in a daycare is so much fun! I love working with little kids because they are just so fun and fabulous and I love it!

Today is my mom's birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!) so while I was sitting at the coloring table I started writing a birthday card for her. And one of my favorite little one year-olds, Beau, comes to sit on my lap (because he starts whining if I don't let him sit on my lap) and he just picks up a crayon and starts scribbling all over the birthday card for my wonderful, beautiful mom! But Beau is just so darn cute, and learned how to say dinosaur and it's adorable when he says dinosaur, so I didn't really care. Then McCall drew circles on the back of her card and folded it up... all... nicely??? I gave it to my mom anyways. I wrote on it Love, Kaylee... plus Beau and McCall. :) She loved it.

Also, while sitting at the table I watched this adorable three year-old start singing "I'm Sexy and I Know It" by LMFAO... best thing ever. And he danced too. However he did edit the word "sexy" but I couldn't tell what word he was saying. Regardless, funny and wonderful moment.

Aw man I love my job!!

I also want to write a bit about my wonderful mother! I love my mom so much! She means so much to me. She does so much for me and has through my whole life! She's supported me through everything, through dance, school, college, and now my marriage. She's been a wonderful help with the wedding plans and I cannot tell her how much I appreciate it! She is so talented at so many things! She is beautiful and wonderful and I love her more than anything!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

Working in a Daycare on Halloween!!

I've written a couple times about how much I love my job working in a daycare! It's so wonderful to get paid to play with little kids. It's my favorite thing ever and it feels that everyday just gets better. I never get sick of these wonderful and adorable kids!

So today my boss was dressed up as a veterinarian and all my coworkers and I were animals. So we had a bunny, two cats, a butterfly and...

That's right, I was a cow. :) I thought it was only fitting considering it's my favorite animal and the theme of this blog. I love this hat! I borrowed it, but I really need to get one of my own... And yes, I'm well aware that with my hair in pigtails I look like a teenager, or possibly younger, but I promise, I really am 21... and turning 22 on Sunday.

(sorry this picture is so blurry, but I had to show the full costume, including the very wonderfully created udder. The kids had fun milking that...)

So a HUGE thank you to my neighbor Nadine for letting me borrow this homemade costume. She did a fabulous job on this, huh? She made it for her son, so it was pretty big on me. It had matching pants but they were much too big so I just wore my black pants. Thanks Nadine for letting me borrow this costume! It was perfect! :)

So working with kids I saw some other fabulous costumes today!

  • 3 Snow Whites
  • 3 pirates
  • 2 Batmans
  • 2 Spidermans
  • 2 dragons
  • Some fairies
  • A couple witches
  • A candy corn witch (cutest costume ever!)
  • Captain America
  • A butterfly
  • A ballerina bear
  • Buzz Lightyear
  • A dog
  • A fireman dog
  • Princess Belle
  • Minnie Mouse
  • A panda
  • Dorothy
  • An army man
  • And a boy wearing an outfit with muscle things that sort of looked like a Power Ranger, but when i asked him what he was, he said he wasn't anything.
It was such a fun day! They took the kids "Trick-or-Treating" around the club so they all got bags of candy. Buzz Lightyear's mom even brought donuts for me and all my coworkers (which were delicious, BTW). And my boss gave us a bag of candy saying that we do a "Spook-tacular" job at work.

It was so much fun! I truly love my job! I'll be writing another post later about my other Halloween activities (opening the front door for trick-or-treaters).

A Day in The Life of a Child Care Provider

It was a dark and stormy morning as I walked to work. I had an umbrella in my backpack, just in case, and I stared anxiously at the looming grey clouds over head, and more spilling out over the mountains like dry ice.  I didn't have time to worry about the weather. I had to mentally prepare myself for a seven hour shift at work.

I walk into work, and everything is the same, normal. I look at my duty of the day: big door attendant. Great. The most boring job in the daycare. I get to sit in a chair, writing down the kids name's as the enter the gym. But today was different, because there weren't very many kids.

A baby girl crawls over to me, grabbing onto my leg. She pulls herself onto her short, stubby legs, clinging onto my pants. A child distracts me at the gate, so I turn away... BOOM!! The baby fell to the ground, hitting her head. She bursts into loud sobs and tears. I quickly pick her up into my arms and cradle her on my lap. The gym floor isn't very soft... not a safe place to hit one's head... Moments later, her mother arrives. Taking her home.

A five-year-old boy approaches me, staring at the gate.

"I have to go back inside." He tells me, sounding scared.

"Why? We're supposed to stay out in the gym." I reply.

"I can't!" The boy begins to whine.

"Why can't you?" I ask.

"Because my mom is picking me up in the daycare, not the gym! She'll never find me in here!" He says loudly, the fear returning in his voice. I keep a straight face.

"Your mom will still find you." I try to ease his fear.

"No she won't! I can't stay here!" The boy eventually wanders off, distracted by the many toys we have placed in the gym.

Two toddlers, both walking but unable to speak are leaning against the gate. Staring into the daycare. One is bigger, the cute chubby look that babies sometimes have. He has bright red hair and brown cowboy boots on his little feet, that squeak every time he takes a step. The other is smaller, blond curly hair, pants that are much too big and keep falling down over his feet, making him slip and fall (good thing he's not much of a crier). I watch the two as they begin to wordlessly interact.

"This is my space." The cowboy boots kid seems to say.

"Hey! There's room enough for the both of us!" The big pants boy argues. Before I know it, the red-headed cowboy holds out his chubby arm and shoves the other kid to the ground. I quickly rush to their side. Gently reminding the cowboy we aren't supposed to push, but really, he can't talk, I doubt he remembers that rule. The big pants kid says nothing, but holds out his arms, wanting me to pick him up. I lift him off the ground and his pants slide down to his ankles.

Next a mother approaches the gate, holding her four year-old son's hand. The little boy is upset, staring into the gym with disgust.

"See?" His mother tries to reassure him. "They got rid of all the monsters in the gym today." Ironically, sitting beside me are the art projects the children had made for the day: monster puppets.

"No, it's scary!" The boy begins to cry. The mother looks tired and upset. This happens everyday for her. Everyday she has to walk through the daycare with him, proving that we don't have any monsters or other scary things. And every time, she gets him distracted and leaves. Leaving behind a very emotional 4 year-old boy who thinks there are scary things in the daycare.

Later that day I'm inside the daycare, at the coloring tables. A little baby girl grabs onto a chair, pulling herself to her feet (I think, I didn't actually see what happened). Suddenly, BOOM!!! Her head hits the window and she bursts into tears. I lift her into my arms and begin carrying her to the front so I can check on her head. I glance down and... blood... pouring out of her mouth. I shift her in my arms so she is lying flat. She continues to sob as I set her down on the counter, wiping her mouth gently with a tissue. Her shirt is covered in blood. I look down, my white polo work shirt has drops of her blood on it.

We get her a bag of ice and she eagerly begins to chew on it. Her tears fade quickly and she smiles as she bites the bag with the few teeth she has. I had to assume her lip was bleeding because she bit it when she fell, but with so few teeth in her mouth, I have to wonder what really happened.

I look over at the door to the daycare. A boy is standing beside it! But wait, he's not supposed to be out there. He's supposed to be in the gate, in the daycare. I look by the fence and see a toy motorcycle that the kids ride on. He had apparently used it to climb over the gate!

"We have to stay in the daycare. No climbing over the fence." I tell the boy. I open up the gate and gesture for him to come in.

"No!" He rebels and begins running back and forth in the small area.

"I need you to go back in the daycare or we'll put you in time-out." I warn him again.

"No!" She shouts. "Look how fast I can run!" He says excitedly.

"Wow. You are fast. How about you show me how you can run back inside the daycare?"

"Okay!" And he books it into the daycare. That boy continued climbing on things, taking other kids toys, and overall giving me a headache. I repeatedly told him the rules: no climbing, no screaming, we have to share. But the words seemed lost on the enthusiastic four year-old.

The daycare is supposed to close at 4:00 PM. It turns to 4:20 when the last mom comes in to pick up her children. I go to take the number tag off the little girl and she coughs all over my hands. Thank you sweetheart, I'm just barely getting over my cold, please don't get me sick again.

So with germs on my hands, blood on my shirt, and a wave of exhaustion sweeping over me, I venture out into the cold stormy weather to walk home from work.

Just the average, ordinary day of a child care provider... and I absolutely love it! :)

Working In A Daycare

So I've been working in a daycare for a few weeks now. It's a part of a gym and parents can drop off their kids while they're working out. I work in the area that mainly deals with children 6 months to 6 years. We are called "The Nest".

I LOVE MY JOB!

I don't care that I'm only making minimum wage and only work part time. That doesn't matter to me because I'm doing what I love! I get to play with little kids and get paid for it, and I couldn't be happier.

There's an area at my work called the baby room, that's my favorite (a surprise to the other girls working in the Nest). I love taking care of the little babies. I don't care that they rip out my hair and scream in my ear. They are adorable! Holding a baby in my arms reminds me of innocence. I think about how cute and innocent they are and the potential that each baby has. They can grow up to be anything!

I'm so grateful for my job! I can't imagine being happier anywhere else. I love working in childcare!
