The Biggest Change

In August of 2009 I moved to Logan, Utah to start college at Utah State University. That was seven years ago. In those seven years I've either been in Logan or knew I would be moving back in a few short months. For the past seven years my life has been in Logan, it has been my home, my school, my workplace, and the place I always returned to.

This September I'm leaving Logan, and I don't know if I'm going back. In the past I always knew I would go back to Logan and this is the first time I don't think I am. It's exciting and terrifying all at the same time.

I'm moving on. I'm making a change. I'm starting a new chapter in my life.

Chris and I are moving out of Logan.

There were a lot of different things that led to this decision, some of which I'm not comfortable posting on here. But for me personally, not speaking for Chris here, Logan reminds me of a lot of sour memories. Yes, this is the place I met my soulmate, but it's also the home of the college I dropped out of, the home of various jobs I didn't like, the home of certain events that hurt me, the home where I lost my child.

While Logan, Utah is an incredible place that I do love and enjoy, I just have too many memories here that hurt me... but more importantly, it's never felt like home.

I've never felt like I was home in Logan. Seven years later and it never felt like home. I always wanted out. I always wanted to move on, to live somewhere different, somewhere closer to family... somewhere with a Target or Forever 21.

A big part of this decision happened on July 14th. My depression hit me hard and I was caught in a pit of hating myself, hating that I lost my child, hating that I wasn't pregnant yet, and hating my life. I was at one of the lowest points of my life. So Chris, being the loving and caring husband he is, took me into crisis care to speak with a therapist so that I could work through a few of my issues and start feeling better again.

In speaking with the therapist, she asked about my job where I told her all my friends had left and I often just went to work, sat alone at my desk, and spoke to no one. She urged me to search for a new job and possibly to move closer to family.

After speaking with her, Chris and I went out to lunch, where we received a phone call that we had lost our nephew. That moment changed my perspective on life in an instant. I spoke briefly about the whole experience and don't want to get into it more because a stillbirth is such a personal thing and since it wasn't mine it's not my story to share... but how could something like that NOT change me?

We then drove down to Layton area to visit my sister-in-law in the hospital. During the drive it all came together for me.

I am unhappy. And I had been unhappy for a very, very long time. Chris was also unhappy. He too had been unhappy for a very, very long time. And despite both of our unhappiness, we remained stuck in our unhappiness not making any changes.

That weekend in July I made decisions to change my life, and everything fell perfectly into place. I was going to be happy. And it all would start with getting out of Logan.

Though leaving Logan is terrifying.

...Because Logan was always like our safe place, our college town. It feels as if the moment we leave Logan we have to start thinking about our futures. It feels like as soon as I leave Logan, I have to grow up. I think part of me has always considered this my college phase, despite having left college years ago. But leaving Logan means I'm no longer in college, which means I need to find a real job, which means I get to start my real life. It's terrifying... but also incredibly exhilarating.

So much has already fallen into place. I have a new job. We have a place to stay until we get the money to afford a new apartment. Our dog will have a yard for a while and be closer to other dogs to play with. I'll be near family. I'll be near more blogging events and opportunities. I'll be near my best friend again! A girl needs her best friend nearby!!

The moment I started telling people I was leaving Logan I got instantly happier. I've been struggling at work so much because I just want out already! I want to leave, I want to start this new phase in my life. I'm beyond excited. I'm ready. I'm scared, but it's the kind of scared that is driving me. I'm inspired to be a better writer/blogger, I'm more motivated.

I want this.

I've wanted this for so long. I've wanted out of Logan for years now and I'm finally doing it. It's already been one of the greatest decisions of my life and I cannot wait to see what this decision brings me.

I finally feel happy again (for more reasons than just this move) and that's something I've needed more than anything after this hellish year.

Here's to changes! The biggest change I've made in a long, long time!!

My Favorite Things About Fall! -Blogtober Day 3

Hey ya'll, I'm back for my third day of Blogtober. It is now officially autumn and it's my favorite time of year! So in today's post I'm going to simply tell you all the things I love most about fall. And it's a Saturday, so I'm sure you have more important/fun things to do then read a long list of my favorite things, so I'll keep this nice and short.

When the leaves change in the mountains and create beautiful colors

Pumpkin patches

Corn mazes

Halloween is the best holiday

My birthday is in autumn

Being able to wear boots all the time

Fall fashion is the absolute greatest

Sunshine and cooler nights

The crunch of stepping on fallen leaves

Colder weather is more of an excuse to stay in and snuggle

Hot chocolate

Insects are slowly disappearing from view

The anniversary of meeting Chris, our first kiss, and our engagement (not all the same year, ha ha)

Random Thoughts

Sometimes I just like to write random thoughts that pop into my head, because... why not.

-I miss my beta fish. Juan and Sassy. They were awesome and then I gave them to my brother out of kindness and because I knew they wouldn't survive the trip to Texas, and within a month he killed them both. He told me Sassy died through a Snapchat and never told me Juan died. Stupid Snapchat. I had ten seconds to see my gay fish for the last time...

-I keep forgetting my new address. But give me a break. Chris and I have been married a year and a half and this is our fourth apartment. UGH! As much as I want to move out of Logan, I also don't want to move again for a while.

-Lately I've been obsessed with New Girl, because it's awesome. My favorite quote from this show is: "I just want to listen to Taylor Swift alone." Story of my life. :) But I also love Zooey Deschanel. She might be my next "Style Icon" on this blog.

-Speaking of Taylor Swift, I don't believe I've mentioned on this blog just how OBSESSED I am with her new song. And the music video. She's such an awkward dancer and I love it. And I know this song came out months ago and she just released a newer one, but still so obsessed. Taylor Swift will always be one of my favorites.

-I also don't believe I've mention specifically on my blog that my brother-in-law is getting married next month. It was on my Twitter and Instagram and maybe my Facebook, but I don't think I put it on the blog. Remember last year when I posted about my "new brother"? Well it's that brother, Sheldon. He's marrying this girl named Aubrey who is awesome and we're already like sisters and I helped her pick out her wedding dress and she is going to look FABULOUS!!! Seriously, that dress is amazing on her. Sheldon and Aubrey are also the newest members of "the dancing cow family" (AKA, liking my Facebook page), so they deserve a shout out for their awesomeness. Thank you!

-I just really want to dye my hair. I messed it up and it turned red and now my roots are growing in and it looks weird. I have a $50 gift card that can be used at over 100 spas and salons across the U.S. but none of those are in Logan. So lame. So either I have to pay full price and use my gift card at a later date or drive to Ogden to get my hair done, but with gas money I'm pretty sure that just makes it cost more. So annoyed right now.

-I love Lego video games. I played Lego Star Wars for like... two weeks, and now we're on the Lego Movie Lego game. It's awesome.

-I miss Avatar. Not the stupid blue people movie which I hate, Avatar: The Last Airbender. I watched two episodes last night and I'm just sad that it doesn't really exist anymore. Because honestly, that it one of the greatest shows there ever was and it's my favorite. It will always be one of my favorites and I am going to raise my kids to watch it all the time. In fact, it may be the only show I'll allow them to watch.

-I love fall!! But it's always so short in Utah I don't get to fully enjoy it before the snow comes. But I just love pumpkins. We bought a little pumpkin and it's adorable and I love it.

-Well I don't really have any more random thoughts for today. I think I'm going to go shopping now. And by shopping I mean, explore the mall and not spend any money.

Week in Photos: August 6th - August 11th

So this has been such a fun and eventful week! So I didn't get my room all organized like planned. I have a lot more stuff than I thought, so it's a struggle. But when everything is all done I'll show it to you. :)

Wednesday: On Wednesday my work gave me a going away party/dinner. They invited my best friend Nick DeFilippis to come and Craig (Fritz) brought the cutest cupcakes (shown above)! His sister decorated them and they were delicious! The barn was especially for me because barn rhymes with Farnes. :)

Thursday: So it was Jimmy Johns Customer Appreciation Day. For anyone who doesn't know, I'm obsessed with Jimmy Johns. I probably have it once a week. So getting two subs for $2.42 was the most fantastic thing of my life! The line went around the store but it was totally worth it! :)

Friday: So it was the Cache Valley Fair and they had lots of cool displays and animals (all shown below). It was tons of fun spending my last day in Logan with Chris at the fair. :)

Yes, this is a creepy doll with a knife pointed at Chris.

Most perfect bag for me!!! But I didn't get it. However I did get a cow print wallet that I absolutely love.

Texas-Twister drink!

Yes, this wheel was bigger than me. And there were more that were even bigger!

New favorite goats. or only favorite goats.

Cute cows!

I love him! :)

Playing at a park!

Saturday: All packed up to leave. We barely fit all my stuff in my dad's Rav-4. It was so hard and sad to say goodbye to Chris....

Balloon Festival!!

Creepy Dora Pillow Pet at Target.

Perry!!!

It was a fun week with Chris. I'm really missing him right now. I hope I can see him again soon!
