New Hair

So... something a little crazy happened on Saturday...

Totally kidding. That's only a wig. But wouldn't I look fantastic as a blond? Also, everyone says I look like a doll in that photo, and I don't really know what to think about that.

Anyways, I did not go blond. I went darker. Thank goodness. I love having dark hair and it totally works with my Halloween costume... and personality.

I don't have much to say about my new hair, just that I love it. I slightly miss the length, but my hair grows fast so I'm not worried. I just love having long hair, and this doesn't feel long to me, not after what I previously had. But for the past few months, the length was getting on my nerves so I really needed it cut. I love my cut.

Before.

The chunk that was cut off.

My mom and brother got their hair done as well!

This was an awkward process.

After!

Here's a comparison of my before and after. I don't look as happy in the after, but I promise I'm super happy about my new look!

What do y'all think of my new do?

Style Icon: Zooey Deschanel/Jessica Day

Chris and I love New Girl. Like, a lot. We've seen each episode on Netflix multiple times and we still laugh every time. It's honestly one of the best shows. But as funny as it is, one of my favorite things about it is the dresses and other outfits Zooey Deschanel wears as Jessica Day.

Today's #FashionFriday post is not of me, but a combination of my favorite Zooey/Jess outfits, although their style is basically the same.

I love this style because it's very girly and fun. Having a job wear I get to wear a dress everyday has been ridiculously fun for me and I've realized how much I prefer wearing dresses to other clothes. Zooey's style is not only cute and girly, but it's also very casual and comfortable looking, which is always a plus. In New Girl she wears big glasses and anyone who knows me well knows that I'm obsessed with glasses, so I want them. I'm also in love with her hair. I've been considering getting bangs like hers, but I really can't decide. If you have an opinion on whether I should get bangs or not please leave a comment below, because I'm very conflicted on this decision.

It only seems fitting that with this post I introduce you to one of my favorite websites: What Would Zooey Deschanel Wear? Not only does it show you a collection of her outfits, it has links on where to get them or similar items! It's amazing to look at and makes me wish I had more money. So check it out because it's pretty much the greatest thing ever.

So anyways, please enjoy a collection of some of my favorite Zooey/Jess outfits. Have a lovely day and if you're participating in Fashion Friday, be sure to use the hashtag on social media so I can see all your styles!

Seriously though, could I pull off bangs like this?

A Green and Rainy May

I don't mean to sound vain, but I completely love these pictures this week. And it's not vain because I'm mostly obsessed with the picture quality and how beautifully green everything has become. We've been getting a ton of rain, for which I am truly grateful for. I'm in love with rain and it's made everything so green and I just love it!

I know this dress was included in a different post fairly recently (also from a rainy day) but it's honestly one of my favorite dresses at the moment and this is styled differently, much more for spring/summer than for winter like the last time. So I think it's completely reasonable to have it again.

Also my hair was working quite nicely that day so I approve of this post very much. I've been obsessed with curling my hair this way and you can find out how I did it HERE.

I also told Chris (my hubby/photographer) to take more close up shots of my hair. We're working on getting him better at specific shots of the different elements of the outfit and for this post we focused on my hair. While I may have a lot of "fashion" posts, I do still feel very new at this so we're working out what looks best. Thanks for liking what I do regardless. As always, you are the greatest.

Elephants

I don't know what color my hair is trying to be lately. I dyed it a short while ago and it was supposed to be black, but my hair always wants to be red. So I'm considering actually dying it red. Like THIS kind of red, or THIS. Or perhaps more of a red highlight like THIS. Or you know, trying dying it black again like THIS. Too many options!! I love playing with my hair though! Lately I've been trying out different hairstyles. Mainly braids. I've been having fun with it and once I get better I'll do tutorials on my YouTube page (PS, I have one hair tutorial up already on how I curl my hair, check it out HERE). But I also have been letting my hair stay more natural lately instead of abusing it with heat, so below is mostly my natural hair, just a little tweaking with my straightener in a few places.

Anyways, I'm in love with this outfit because it's simple. It has a lot of different pieces that makes it look a bit fancier, but it's so comfy and cute. My necklace isn't very visible in these pictures, but I won it from my friend at Styled By Blondie! I'm in love with it and have had fun putting it with different outfits. My latest obsession has been necklaces and I wear them all the time. I want more though....

Well I hope you enjoy this outfit, because I sure do. And I hope you have a fabulous day!

Fashion Fridays: Back to School

I know I'm not the only one that reserves my best outfits, and the most time and energy into looking great for back to school. Whether you're in high school, college, elementary, whatever, it's always a good idea to look good for back to school, because in most cases, it's a way to make a great first impression. You'll always meet new people the first day of school, so it's good to look your best.

Below are tons of outfit ideas as well as hair and makeup tutorials (sorry boys, this post is catered to girls).

This outfit is incredibly simple! Just jeans, a white T-shirt and a scarf! So easy to pull together even if you don't have money to buy new school clothes. I personally would substitute the heels though, while I love heels, walking all over campus in heels is not my favorite.

This is similar, but brighter and more summery. In Utah, we have to wear out our summer clothes as long as we can, because as the fall/winter season starts, you'll be in coats for months.

Another incredibly simple outfit. If you're going to wear just a white T-shirt and leggings, make sure you add an accent color with shoes or jewelry.

I'm a huge fan of the basics. I love this outfit because it's so simple, but can still look really good if everything fits properly.

This shirt would be great for back to school! It's simple and casual but it has a fun flirty twist.

I love everything about this outfit. It's simple, it's adorable and I'm in love with that bag.

I'm obviously sticking with the simple stuff in this post (because I have no money to spend on clothes so I assume no one else has money either). This outfit is really pulled together by such a cute cardigan! Without the cardigan, the outfit would look frumpy.

I'm a huge fan of cardigans (obviously) but my favorite piece in this picture is the adorable flowered tank top! It's super cute with the ruffles and very flirty and fun.

This is more dressy, but still in a very casual way. I love ballet flats and these ones would be a perfect neutral for many outfits. The skirt on this is adorable!

Web Video Wednesday: Fishtail Braid and Popular

I have been waiting semi impatiently since Sunday to put this video up!! I'm so excited to share it with you because it is by far the easiest way I've seen to fishtail braid. After watching the video once I went in my bathroom and did it as easy as that. And it looked good too!! So if you haven't already perfected fishtail braids, please check out this awesome tutorial! You'll love it!

PS, I was not wear extensions, but for some reason it gave a slightly thicker appearance than a regular braid. I'll post a picture of mine soon!

I also want to add my newest favorite song/music video. I love Ariana Grande!!! Lately she's my hair and makeup inspiration. And I'm just so in love with her voice. She's incredibly talented. Check out her covers on Youtube, they're pretty amazing.

Moments

Today is going downhill. It started out good. I woke up feeling great and well rested. I watched parts of Despicable Me and Ever After (both fantastic movies). I drove to Logan (which seemed to take forever!!). We got some Paradise Bakery (yum!!!). Then I bought Chris's ring (we only have 48 days left!!!). We looked up housing options (we're running out of time!!!). Then he left for work...

So I've been sitting in his apartment playing on his laptop for the past two hours watching Avatar: The Last Airbender.... and his roommate joined me...

I feel awkward... But whatever. Only a month (ish) till his only roommate is me. :)

I LOVE MY NEW HAIR COLOR!!! I always have my cousin dye my hair because she's great at it!! She is fantastic and is doing my hair for my wedding. She lives in the Orem area and can give you her contact information if you're in need of a new fantastic hairstyle. Pictures of my new hair will be coming soon. :)

Avatar is fantastic. I just can't stop watching it! I'm very upset that Nickelodeon won't play it for me anymore. It makes me very sad and depressed. They play it sometimes, but at inconvenient times. And it's best when the play it with Avatar Extras, because they're funny and let me learn more about the show, which is good since I've already seen every episode... multiple time.

Avatar is available on Netflix if anyone wants to check it out. That's what I'm watching it on right now. I also get it for free on my Kindle Fire through Amazon Prime. I'm so glad my dad has Amazon Prime. It gives me Avatar and helped us buy stuff for my wedding for cheaper. Good times. :)

I love Christopher! He just makes my life so much better! He means so much to me. And he's very attractive. So attractive! How did I get someone so attractive? I'm so lucky!! He's just the nicest guy ever!

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

If I lived in the Avatar world, I'd like to be an airbender like Aang. Just watch the show, Aang can do almost anything! He's super talented and can pretty much fly! Who doesn't want to fly? More importantly, airbending can be done anywhere! Air is everywhere! Waterbenders need water, earthbenders need earth, firebenders can produce their own fire so... ignore them... but airbenders can get air from anywhere! They can be unstoppable because air is everywhere!

I'd also like to say Toph is amazing. I'm watching the episode 'The Blind Bandit'. Toph is amazing. Truly amazing. If I was an earthbender, I'd want to be like Toph. My brother wants to be an earthbender. I think earthbenders are really cool... but mostly just Toph. :)

I don't really have anything else to say except more about Avatar. But that's cool. Have a great day! You're awesome!

How To Crimp Your Hair With a Straightener

I'm obsessed with my straightener!! I use it everyday to either straighten, curl, and now crimp my hair. It's fantastic, and I'll teach you how!

So I use a CHI. You can look at/purchase one here: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2091315&productId=xlsImpprod3850103&navAction=push&navCount=1&subdoc=1chi2012&categoryId=cat1000001 (but we got mine at Costco for cheaper). This waving technique was actually shown to me on a different type of straightener. I'm sorry that I don't remember exactly what brand it was. But it seems to work just fine on my CHI. The only thing you need are those rounded edges (look at the yellow part and how it rounds on the sides towards the black, since it all heats up, that's what helps it wave or curl).

These are my before pictures. I had straightened my hair earlier before work so it was pretty straight when I got started. Sorry for my cheesy smile...

So the technique is fairly simple. Take a strand of hair and press it into your straightener. Now instead of just smoothing the straightener down your hair, tilt it up and down while slowly going down your hair. It's a little difficult to explain. Basically just twist your wrist up and down while smoothing out the strand of hair. Above is the photo of my tilting it up...

... and this is me tilting the straightener downward. Does that make sense? Please leave a comment if you don't get it. Maybe I'll make a video so you can better see how it's done.

It should look something like this.

In the picture above, do you see how I'm tilting the straightener? Just tilt it back and forth. Sorry for the weird doll-like face. It's hard to make pretty faces while doing your hair and taking pictures at the same time.

The final result! I think it looks really pretty and this only took me like ten minutes on my hair! My hair isn't incredibly thin, but it's not that thick either, so the time would vary depending on your hair type.

I also want to point out my new mascara. I have a love/hate relationship with mascara. It's my favorite type of makeup, I wear it everyday, no matter what (even swimming, thank you for water-proof!) but I cannot find a brand that I love. Still can't. I've tried lots too. So if you have any suggestions, let me know.

The mascara I'm currently trying out is the Mega Plush by Maybelline.

Currently, I'm really liking this mascara. It makes my eyelashes look longer, which is good because I have fairly short ones. It also keeps them very soft. I hate mascaras that are really heavy on your eyelashes and when you touch it, the mascara seems all crusty and hard. But Mega Plush doesn't do that. When I feel my eyelashes with my finger, it feels as if I'm not wearing any mascara! And I really like that. It's very light and freeing. So far I like this mascara. But I usually stop liking my mascaras after a few weeks.

So if you have any fantastic mascaras you'd like to tell me about, I would be very grateful!

Well that's all for this blog post. Thanks for reading! I hope my directions for crimping your hair weren't too difficult. If you have any questions, please leave a comment! I usually respond to all the comments on this page, so just keep in touch!

I LOVE MY READERS!!!
