My Insurgent Trailer Reaction

Wow! Doesn't that just look so intense and exciting and wonderful??? Well, not really. Not in my opinion. I have a lot to say about this trailer so if you don't mind my rambling of being upset then read on! But if you don't care about Divergent at all and don't want to hear/read me venting, then feel free to browse my other blog posts. May I recommend My Top Ten Christmas Songs?

Also be warned, this post contains a fairly significant spoiler for Allegiant . So I hate to spoil something like that to everyone so I'll warn you when it comes up. And honestly, if you haven't read it, please don't spoil this for yourself.

Okay, I have two major problems with this trailer. The first is the story. If a movie is meant to be based on a book it should at least try to follow the story already written. However this trailer massively changes it.

While not in the trailer, I read months ago that they added a new character into Insurgent to create a love-triangle for Tris. When I read this I was so insanely irritated! The reason I loved the Divergent trilogy so much is because there was no love-triangle. Tris and Four only had each other, there weren't other prospects and they both knew that and they both loved each other. Yes, they fought frequently but the fact that they stayed with each other and didn't even think about other people was the greatest thing to come out of a young-adult novel.

Hunger Games and Twilight are the biggest offenders of the love-triangle and while I love both of those books (yes, I do like the Twilight books, just not the movies, although they are a wonderful joke that can be entertaining sometimes, but I will talk about that a bit later) it annoyed me that they had love-triangles. Bella said a billion times she wanted Edward so Jacob is pretty stupid for continuing to try and Bella is kind of the worst girlfriend ever, and possibly a slut, for leading Jacob on when she's in love with someone else. Katniss, in the books, never gave a second glace to Peeta or Gale and then she was suddenly forced to choose? Come on, you're like seventeen years old and you know you don't love either one so just forget about both of them until you grow up a bit. And in the books I felt she didn't deserve either one of them because she didn't love them, there was no point to have to choose. In the movies my feelings are different, they've done a good job at making her show that she really does care about Peeta and I love the relationship between them. I love the movies...

I'm totally straying from my point.

My point is, we already have too many love-triangles in books and movies and we don't need more! If you in real life have been in a love-triangle, you should let me know, because as far as I know it's not a common occurrence. And even when it does happen, people in real life seem to handle it a lot better than people in books. Real people aren't typically idiots. I had a friend who was sort of dating a guy but she liked someone else who liked her. And you know what she did? She broke off with the guy she didn't like because that's how people should do things. You don't drag out a fake romance because that only leads to broken hearts.

Tris and Four love each other. They don't need someone else. They don't need a love-triangle. And the fact that the writers of the Insurgent movie even considered it is a nightmare! If you're making a movie, whose biggest audience is teenage girls, shouldn't you show them what a real relationship looks like? Tris and Four care and protect for each other. They love each other. I personally think that they are a good role model of a healthy relationship, even if they did fight quite a bit in the book.

Why can't we promote healthy, confident relationships instead of loving vampires and having to make decisions? Maybe I'm crazy, but I believe that love isn't a choice. When you love someone you know. When I was in high school I thought I loved someone. I had strong feeling for them and to that point I hadn't felt that way before. I thought that was love. Then, years later after more fake love and heartbreaks, I met my husband and I knew. Love isn't a choice. Love is a feeling that you get, and you know when you have it.

(This is a direct quote from the book, so don't be throwing in any love-triangles!!)

Sorry, there is so much rambling going on in this post.

Back to the story. Here's what in the trailer that wasn't in the book.

  • A box that seems fairly significant to the plot of the movie that was non-existent in the book.
  • And testing Divergent's on the box? I guess...
  • Tris's short hair, but I'll get to that later.
  • Tris frequently holding and shooting guns. In the books, after killing her good friend Will in Divergent, she is no longer able to hold a gun without having an anxiety attack. In my opinion this is a fairly significant change. Again, I will talk more on this later.
  • Four jumping in front of a train.
  • The whole dream and/or simulation where her mother is in a burning house.
  • Doc Ock type tentacle things that go into Tris's back.
  • Umm... a naked makeout session...
Wait. Wasn't that basically everything in the trailer? Why yes, yes it was.

I just feel let down that they felt the need to change everything. The entire plot line is changed, from what I can tell. While Insurgent is not the greatest book in the world, couldn't they at least try to keep it?

I think a lot of this anger is based on the fact that I want to be a writer. I want to write books, I am writing books, and the idea of people taking my creations, my ideas and throwing them out the window and changing them entirely is fairly heartbreaking. I don't think I could allow that to happen and it makes me upset that writers do. Twilight was an okay book series. And then Stephanie Myers said, "Yeah, go ahead a make a movie of it with terrible acting and lines so strange they could only be considered a joke." And now Veronica Roth is saying "Yeah, I loved these characters and writing this books, but feel free to change them however you want to make lots of money." Why are these authors just selling out their creations for money? It's awful! If I ever write a book successful enough to become a movie, I honestly don't think I could let other people take it from me and do it. I would want to be a part of every step; writing, directing, casting, music, etc. Authors shouldn't let directors destroy their books, their creations. It's like Billy Ray Cyrus allowing Miley to sit naked on a wrecking ball all over again.

Story. I hate that it's changed. It's not hard to follow the book. Moving on.

The second biggest problem I have is Tris's character. Now, in the books I really do like Tris as a character. She's very real. Just read the ending of Allegient, she's as real as they come, but I'll talk more about that at the very end of this post.

Tris is a sixteen year old girl who is supposed to have shoulder length blonde hair, be small, but fairly strong, confident, gets herself into trouble because she's too confident in her abilities, is unable to hold a gun because of the intense guilt she feels, has a bullet wound in her shoulder, knows her weaknesses, loves Four, and wants to find a very significant piece of information hidden in the Erudite compound that will tell them about what's outside the fence.

Just from the trailer, Tris seems invincible.

Now I realize that in many parts of the trailer Tris is or could possibly be in a simulation. So what appeared to be invincibility was not real. However, there are equally as many parts in the trailer that lead me to believe Tris is being portrayed as a strong young woman who will save the day, instead of a sixteen year old girl.

"She's the perfect subject." Said Eric in the trailer, as if giving her this "chosen one" persona. Even the captioning on the trailer says "What sets her apart will set the world free." Why is she so special? I repeat, SHE IS A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL. She's Divergent, yes, but so is Four, so is Uriah, so is Tori, why does she have to be so special? This is something that bothered my husband in the books, he didn't understand why she had to be so special. In my mind, I like to pretend Uriah and Tori and Four are capable of her level of Divergence and, if the circumstances were different, they could have the same series of events happen to them. But this trailer blatantly says that she is the chosen one, and as a wounded, sixteen year old girl who can't hold a gun without having a panic attack, I don't think she deserves that title.

It bothers me that Shailene Woodley wouldn't wear extensions or a wig. I know that it's weird for me to be so concerned about her hair, but come on, there are so many actors who have done crazy things with their hair for roles. Actors dye their hair, cut their hair, grow beards, etc. because that's what the character needs. Jennifer Lawrence cut her hair short but didn't say "Katniss is going to have short hair now." No! Because that's not who Katniss is! Katniss is meant to have longer brown hair in a braid, Just like Tris is meant to have shoulder length blonde hair. Jennifer Lawrence cut her hair for herself, to be herself, but she knew that she was playing a character that didn't look like her and she knew she had to make her hair look like her character.

It bothers me that Shailene Woodley said she wouldn't wear extensions. She should already know this! She cut her hair specifically for a role! She is not Tris and it's not fair for her to decide how her character's hair should be when the character was already written ahead of time without Shailene Woodley even being planned to portray her. I'm not saying her hair looks bad, I'm only saying she should not have the right to change a character already written. That's like an actor saying, "I'll play Santa Claus but I want blond hair and to be skinny." You just don't mess with characters already set!! Do you remember how many people were upset Harry Potter's eyes weren't green. His eyes! You barely even get close enough to see his eyes! This is a fairly significant change for the character and I just don't like it.

Tris should not be holding a gun. In the books, the fact that she couldn't hold a gun made her vulnerable, made her real. I don't like this continual idea that Tris is invincible. There's a scene in the trailer where Tris runs through a door, closes it behind her and leans forward as bullets hit the door. Come on! Not one of those hit her? She's really that smart? That invincible? And I know it has to be a dream or simulation when she's "saving?" her mother from a burning... and flying... building, but she's much too strong, trained, and invincible in those clips. That's not what a sixteen year old girl who grew up in Abnegation should be like.

Okay... naked scene. If you follow me on Twitter, which you should cause I can be funny sometimes, you know that I personally believe Shailene Woodley won't sign onto a movie unless she can get naked and have a sex scene. Her last four movies (I think) had sex scenes and she was in Secret Life of the American Teenager where in the first episode she found out she was pregnant and sixteen. She loves sex scenes apparently. But Tris and Four aren't supposed to be like that. I will say it again, TRIS IS SIXTEEN YEARS OLD!!! I don't care that the actors who play Tris and Four are not, stop making teenagers act like adults!!! Goodness!!

Those are my two main issues. The story and Tris. Other reasons the trailer makes me upset: everything is just wrong, too much action, the fact that there is a naked makeout session, Evelyn looks younger than Four, Tris's mother is supposed to be dead yet she is in this trailer a lot, where was Marcus, he has a fairly significant role in this book, and again EVERYTHING IS WRONG.

I'm so close to a Taylor Swift freakout...

That's it. Unless you've read Allegiant and I have one last thing to say. Sorry this post was ridiculously long. I honestly didn't intend it to be. Let me know what you thought of the Insurgent trailer in the comments and if you've read Allegiant, feel free to keep reading.

The Top 10 Most Important Books I've Read

My incredible sister challenged me to write about the top ten most important/influential/inspiring books I have read. She put it up on her blog, which she would always tell me about but I never actually knew what it was until now, and now I'm blog-stalking her. Mua ha ha!

Anyways, I've always loved reading and have always wanted to write books, but creating this list was actually incredibly hard. It would be a million time easier for me to write about the most important songs in my life. I think I connect with music in a very different way than I do with books. So I thought about it all day and stole a lot of the books from my sister's list, but I think I've made a pretty complete list of the books that have helped me most in my life. It's random and some of them may seem odd, but these are my favorites all for very different reasons.

  1. Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom --This is perhaps one of my favorite books of all time. If you haven't read it, it's about a dying man teaching one of his past students about life. It's honestly one of the most beautiful and inspiring books I've ever read. I really think it taught be about life and living life to the fullest.
  2. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare --For a very long time I told people this was my favorite book, and that's still mostly true. I love this story so much because it's pretty much what every love story is based on, but this is the first and the best. There's something about a tragic love story that I just love so much (which remind me, it's Halloween time, so go watch my favorite movie: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog)
  3. Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling --Currently at work I'm listening to the audio-books of the whole Harry Potter series. I believe these books are some of the greatest, most well written books ever written. I honestly love them so much (although not as much as my sister) and they were the first books as a kid that I truly fell in love with. In elementary school I had a Harry Potter club with two of my friends and it helped us bond in a very special way. I love Harry Potter and the way these books helped me grow up. Harry and I grew up together and I will always love these books in a very special way.
  4. How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss --Every Christmas Eve my siblings and I read this book together and it's my most favorite holiday tradition and something I want to keep up with my future children. This book is a beautiful story of the true meaning of Christmas, and about life. It's not about gifts and material things, it's about family, friends, and about love. That's a lesson that I love to be reminded of every Christmas.
  5. The Ordinary Princess by M.M. Kaye --I read this book over and over again as a child because I always have been, and probably always will be, obsessed with princesses. I love reading stories about princesses. And in this story she has brown hair like me and doesn't care about being a princess, she just want to live a normal and ordinary life, but she's still a princess and still incredibly special. I love this book.
  6. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins --I have a very weird dark side. I love reading about pain and death sometimes. All my most favorite songs are super depressing and my husband thinks I'm super weird because of it. This book gives me so many feels! I love that it's brutal and honest and there's no sympathy there. Life is brutal and hard and not all stories and chapters in our lives have happy endings. I honestly love this book, and think I love the movies even more. I'm literally freaking out over Mocking Jay trailers
  7. Chicken Soup for the Kid's Soul --This is another book I read multiple times as a child. It has 101 different stories about real life. And I truly feel this book taught me more about life than any other book. It taught me about heartache and pain, about joy, about being grateful, about family, about friends, about life! I love this book.
  8. Emeralds and Espionage by Lynn Gardner --This one may seem weird, but it was the first book I read about adults and about real love. My dumb teenage self learned a lot from this book about love and not to settle for anyone who doesn't believe in my morals and they must treat me like a princess. And that's exactly what I got.
  9. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green --I didn't read this book until this summer, but as soon as I was done, bawling my eyes out, I felt that it was one of the greatest books I had ever read. This book is so real, so raw, painful, and beautiful. I enjoyed it so much and am scared to see the movie because it's impossible for it to live up to what the book brought me, but it will make me sob for hours.
  10. Divergent by Veronica Roth --I've reread this book so many times and seen the movie so many times. I don't know what it is. I love this book. I hate the third one, but I love this book. I think it is an incredible view of female empowerment. I can be powerful and strong and brave. I love that this book reminds me of that.

What are the top 10 books that are most important to you?

Pinterest Sundays: Babies, Beds, Talia, Weight Loss, Harry Potter, and Demi Lovato!

I have a board on my Pinterest called "Kids are so Darn Cute!" and I couldn't resist pinning this adorable child onto it! This picture just melts my heart! At the bridal shower I hosted this week they were trying to figure out who of the two brides-to-be would have kids first. They were both complaining about kids and saying they just like playing with them for a little while and as soon as they start to cry, they don't want them anymore. I'm not like that at all. When I see a baby cry, I just want to hold them and make everything better. I love kids so much! I need to work in a daycare again because I really don't want to have a baby till I finish school.

Also, this pin had a quote with it: "Take time to laugh -it is the music of the soul." (from an old English prayer). I really like this quote.

So I pinned this picture because 1. This bedroom is very cute and organized and I wish mine was cute and organized and 2. I REALLY want to get and/or make an end bench like this one. I think it would complete our bedroom and make it much better. But pink or coral wouldn't go in our room. We'd need red or black or white (which were our wedding colors and the colors everyone bought for us for wedding gifts). The pin is linked HERE, and I highly request you check it out because there are tons of other beautiful bedrooms on that link!!

This beautiful little girl passed away this week and I was so sad about it. She's was so incredibly beautiful and talented and had the most amazing heart and spirit. I know there is a very special place in heaven for people like her. Here is one of her makeup tutorials that I watched recently and am in love with:

50 Ways to Lose 10 Pounds! I read through all of these and they are really easy tips! Please click on the link because it's totally worth your time.

I read through all these Harry Potter facts for fun the other day (because I literally have nothing better to do with my life). Chris loves Scotland and wants to live there someday. He served his LDS mission in and around Edinburgh and so I told him when we visit Scotland, we are visiting this hotel.

I've written before about how much I love Demi Lovato. She is beautiful and talented and a wonderful role model and inspiration to me, despite the fact that she's younger. I really truly look up to her. I love this quote.

So I pinned a lot this week and with I could share it all with you... so click HERE to see all my pins! I love you readers!

My Favorite Fictional Couples

When I was in my 8th grade Spanish 1 class, we (as a class) once kept our teacher from teaching us any Spanish by having him rant about how the people that you are around influence you and you become like them (which explains my lack of knowledge on the Spanish language).

That story is only partially relevant to this post.

See, as I'm sure we all do, I have some of my favorite fictional couples from books and movies. And if the above statement is true, I would love to hang out with these couples, because their relationships are so strong and beautiful and I love the way that they love each other. I aspire to be like these couples (although my relationship, in my opinion, is better than all of these ones combined) because these couples work hard at their relationships and love each other no matter what.

So here is my list of ten my favorite fictional couples (with pictures and videos!!!) in no particular order. I know I'll be leaving out some good ones but I can always make another list later. (WARNING: May contain spoilers! Read at your own risk!)

Fergus and Elinor (from Pixar's Brave

Chris and I keep trying to watch this show but our DVD player is broken and really hates this movie (apparently) so we've never been able to get through it. I absolutely ADORE the relationship that Fergus and Elinor have. I don't care that this is a cartoon, but when Fergus sees that his wife may be sick, him immediately begins to worry. When he finds his wife gone, he really freaks out. But it's all out of love. You can see it and hear it and it's the cutest thing ever. I'm not the biggest fan of this movie, but they're relationship is so adorable. And Merida is so cute in the picture above!

Chandler and Monica (from Friends)

I talk about Friends way too much on this blog but it's only because it's my favorite!! I love that going through all the seasons, Chandler was always partial to Monica, even from the very beginning. And it's just so cute to me that it pays of for them. Everyone always want to marry their best friend (which I did) and Monica and Chandler absolutely did and it was just so perfect.

Ron and Hermione (from Harry Potter by JK Rowling)

I'm currently going through all the Harry Potter movies and it's so funny the relationship that Ron and Hermione have in the first movie/book. Their relationship is just cute. It's another friends to couple story, but theirs was kind of always there. Ron always felt something there and I'm pretty sure Hermione did too. And it's just the cutest relationship to read and especially to watch them as cute little 11 year old kids then turn into adults and have such a strong and meaningful relationship. Bravo JK Rowling. Bravo.

Shawn and Juliet (from Psych)

This is one of my favorite Shawn and Juliet scenes. I don't care that there have been a ton of adorable ones since this moment, especially since they ended up together (he is seriously the cutest boyfriend to her). This scene shows the beginning. Shows that he loved her, not like, love, from the moment that he met her. There is no cuter relationship than this one, because he always always loved her and never ever stopped.

Jim and Pam (from The Office)

Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski played these roles absolutely perfectly because their relationship is probably the best there ever was on television. It always felt so real that I often forget that they are actors and that they're really in relationships with other people. Jim and Pam are perfect in every way. This show let you see their relationship grow from a crush to married with kids and it was just so beautifully written (their relationship, not always the show) that their relationship really captivated you and made you happy.

Dill and Rosemary (from Easy A (yeah, I didn't know their names either until IMDB))

Ha ha ha! They are just too funny! I absolutely love this movie! They are the greatest movie parents ever, but they also have a very funny and cute relationship. She always picks him as family member of the week because she loves him so much. It's just cute and funny and loveable.

Also in this movie I love Olive and "Woodchuck" Todd. He is just so darn cute to her and always stands up for her and believes in her. It's very cute. If you haven't seen this movie, I do recommend it, however I also recommend that you're comfortable with "adult" issues and maybe a bit older before you see it (AKA, I do NOT want my little brother seeing it just yet).

Steve and Peggy (from Captain America: The First Avenger)

(SPOILER ALERT) This might be one of my favorite ones on here. Their love story is so dang cute and tragic and it just breaks your heart. However, Romeo and Juliet is one of my favorite books so I'm kind of in love with tragic love stories. First of all, Captain America is pretty dang attractive (I'm sorry husband, I still love you!!!!) so I'm automatically going to like him on screen. But then you add a very strong female character, which I love. I love how brave and strong of a character she is, it's refreshing from the usually super hero movies where the girl is just a damsel in distress. But their little crush is so cute and it builds and builds to this beautiful love story... then it fades away and your sad but you secretly know in your heart that everything is okay, because they got to experience true love and they got to be together, even if it was for a short while.

Marshall and Lily (from How I Met Your Mother)

I've already written a little about these two here, so I won't say a ton more. When Chris and I were watching this show together, we realized how much alike we are to these two. This couple will always have a special place in my heart because they just remind me of Chris and myself, and I love my relationship the most.

And also...

Marshall is pretty dang romantic and smart. He is wonderful in a relationship.

Ross and Rachel (from Friends)

I honestly don't think there's anything left to say after this video. He's her lobster. :) (and I apologize for the weird song at the end, not my video)

Bart and Allison (from Emeralds and Espionage by Lynn Gardner)

I first read this books when I was in middle school and I told myself that if I could marry any fictional character, it would be Bart. I don't have much to say except, please read these books and please learn about the beautiful and wonderful relationship that these two have which is so very real that it could easily be imitated in real life. Read this books and learn to love this couple as much as I do.

Things I Wanted to Write About On or Before Christmas

This post is brought to you by LAZINESS! It gets you far in life... not.

1. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Yes, I seriously didn't even get on my blog long enough to write Merry Christmas. That's pure laziness right there. Yes, I did work 24 hours this week, which isn't too far off from my normal week, but seriously, I can't even write Merry Christmas? I'm pathetic. Anyways, I hope you all had a very merry Christmas! Mine was FANTASTIC!!

2. I made a Star Wars Clone Trooper Snowflake!!!

It was pretty awesome if I do say so myself. I found how to do it here and the example snowflake looks like this:

And I say I did pretty darn well. We looked at the other ones but seriously I don't think anyone could make this:

I love you Princess Leia, but that's not happening.

3. I didn't divulge in the extended version of my shopping trip with my brother. I will now share just a few things with you.

This book... what? Okay sure I want a "low stress, high success, LDS wedding" but do I really want a wedding planner book with a slightly creepy winking bride on it? No, no I do not. Thank you, but I'll find something else. Like THIS!!

A South Pole Water Tribe nativity scene!! With an adorable penguin and seal!! I love it! I wanted to buy it. I apologize for the horrible quality photo, it was taken with my phone. My phone camera shouldn't really deserve to be called a camera. But doesn't the above picture look like this:

Same outfits, same dog, I NEED THIS NATIVITY SCENE!! PS, I've been watching way too much Avatar lately, but I'm not ashamed about it. In fact, I'm proud of it. It makes me happy. :)

Also while shopping I found something out. If the fire alarm starts going off in the Hallmark store at the mall, what do people do??? Complain. Not try to evacuate the store, don't even think about asking the store workers on what to do, no, just complain. "That's loud!" "Turn that off!" You know if it was going off because of a real fire I wonder if people would still react the same way "Curse you fire for ruining my Christmas shopping!!"

4. I'm the best girlfriend/fiance in the world. Yep. Because only I would spend $80+ on my fiance's fishing related gift on this:

And this:

And a $50 gift card to Cabela's for fishing related gifts. Granted, this gift could have been much cooler (if I had gotten to the store an hour earlier John Bytheway would have been there to sign the book and the gummy worms in the candy fish tackle box were like rocks) but he loved it anyways.

5. K-Mart already started selling Valentines. Before Christmas.

So I guess the real question is why; Why do K-Mart employees want to cause husband/boyfriends searching for the perfect Christmas gift to start stressing out over Valentines Day??? I believe that if this gets kept up, the divorce rate will keep going up as well. Too much holiday gift stress isn't good for relationships.

6. I had a lovely ward-y girls dinner on Saturday! They were girls I had grown up with and we haven't seen each other in forever! It was so much fun eating, catching up, and sharing Christmas gifts! I love you Kelsey for setting that up! And I miss all my E3 girls!!

7. I bought some really great gifts this year!!

  • My dad received a jar full of Peanut M&M's with a tag saying "To my nutty but sweet dad". (I did not come up with this myself, see HERE) I also got him a Utah State hat! It's about time he started to support my school more!! :)
  • My mom received a box of hand and feet warmers (the little pack things), a silver shimmery scarf, and two sets of earrings.
  • My sister's was my favorite!! I bought her Harry Potter Kindle Fire covers!! Found on Etsy HERE!! I also got her a Ron one. They are super cute and so perfect for my sister!! :)
  • I went to six different store just to find Lego Pirates of the Carribean Video Game for Wii for my brother. I'm glad I did too because I was playing it last night and I love it!!! :)
8. (and the last one) My parent know their kids so very very well...

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

My Fears

I'm starting an October segment, every post this month will have something to do with creepy, scary, Halloween type things. I love Halloween, so enjoy!

Okay this blog post may turn away my readers. You may feel that I'm a big wimp and that I need to stop being so afraid of everything, but even though I have tons of fears (as you soon will see) I usually still do things that involve them anyways. So in honor of Halloween coming up, here are my biggest fears; judge me if you want, but this is just the way I am. (this is not a Top Ten list, it's just a random list of my fears in no particular order)

1. Animals
Let my clarify this one a bit. I'm not afraid of all animals. I love aquariums and zoos and as you should already know, I love cows. But my fear of animals is more a fear of animals touching me... except cows... actually that's not true. I am probably afraid of all animals that touch me. I think it has to do with the fact that I can't communicate with them, I don't know what they're thinking or what they might do next and that scares me.  My own dog scares me.
This above picture is of my family's dog, Molly. My family never planned on having a dog, my mom didn't really want one. But one day my dad and brother came home from a camping trip with Molly. She mostly just stays in our backyard, she's an outdoor dog. She comes in sometimes in the winter though (Utah winters are brutal). Molly, while adorable, terrifies me. I go out in the backyard and play catch with her sometimes, because it's her favorite thing to do. But when she gets close to me, tries to lick me, or jumps up on me, I almost want to run away screaming. I hate when she does that! I hate when dogs do that! And unfortunately, that's just what dogs do! Dogs are adorable, I like them much better than cat and most other animals, but I'm still afraid of them. I'm getting better though! Christopher's dog Max, is the sweetest dog I have ever met, and I really like him. He's very gentle and will just fall asleep on your lap. He's the best dog I've ever met, and the only dog I've really liked (sorry Molly). So when we get married Chris wants a dog, and I said that we could have one as long as I don't have to take care of it, and it's trained to be a mellow dog like Max.
Anyways, very long tangent there, animals scare me. Particularly the big ones, the fast ones, the little quick ones, and the slithering ones.

2. Birds
I'm separating birds from animals because there are some animals I like, I'm pretty sure there are no birds I like. Birds are terrifying!!! Yes, penguins are birds and they're adorable... to look at. I don't really ever want to go near a penguin. I also think that owls are amazing, but that doesn't mean I want a pet owl like Harry Potter, even if Hedwig was always one of my favorite characters. I think my fear of birds has to do with beaks and the fact that they can fly at any moment right at your face. Ducks and seagulls are my least favorite and in Utah, I see them all the time! They aren't even pretty! At least peacocks are pretty, and most of the little songbirds, they're pretty, but I still don't like them. Ostriches are probably the scariest of all birds, they're huge! But I don't see them that often. I hate ostriches though. In elementary school kids used to tease me about my last name and call me "Ostrich" instead. I hated it. I actually think birds are my worst fear. I'm terrified of birds.

3. Bugs
I might as well just go over all the animal type things that scare me right? So lots of people are afraid of spiders like me. Which sounds irrational because they're tiny, but the minute I see a spider my brain goes into overdrive thinking of everywhere that spider could sneak into and pop out later. Spiders are terrifying. But my bug fears don't stop there. I'm afraid of every bug. Every last one. Even butterflies. Yes they are beautiful creatures and I like to color them at the daycare I work at, but similar to birds, they just fly wherever they want and they try to attack you and I hate it! I hate bugs! I'm not just afraid of them, I hate them.

4. Closed In,Tight Spaces
More commonly known as claustrophobia, this is probably my most normal fear. I don't like feeling trapped in a small space. Occasionally it will effect me in a car, usually only if I've been in the car a very long time or we're in a parking garage. I get very claustrophobic in planes. But I still ride in planes, I just fall asleep for as much of the ride as I can, and then I'm usually okay. In high school I told my friends that I was claustrophobic and they locked me in a closet (we aren't friends anymore). I started hyperventilating and ate the peanut butter that was in the closet.

5. Bridges
If I'm in a car and it goes over a bridge, I hold my breath and I'm fine. If I'm driving the car, I have a hard time going over the bridge, it makes my body tense up. If I'm walking over a bridge, I have to hold someone's hand for support. And some bridges, I won't go over at all. My mom told me that once at Disneyland a bridge broke and we all fell in the water. It was just a little bit of water, but I was a little kid and my mom and to pull me up to keep my head out of the water. I don't remember that happening, but maybe my fear of bridges stems from that.

6. Clowns
Lots of people I know are scared of clowns, so don't judge me too harshly on this one. Clowns are creepy! Even the ones trying to be all happy and make children laugh, they're still creepy! At a parade a clown poked me with his cane. Why? I don't know! But I didn't like it. And it didn't help my like clowns. Also at the same parade a few years earlier, my best friend and I were playing catch in the street (it was closed off for the parade and the parade hadn't started yet) and a golf cart full of clowns tried to run her over! Seriously, they could have gone around easily, but they didn't even try, just headed straight for her. She's more afraid of clowns than I am, so that experience really wasn't good for her.  (I also want to add that while looking for an image of a clown on Google, I found this quote: "If nobody likes clowns why do they even exist?" Yes! Thank you!)

7. The Monster in the Closet
Okay, this one's kind of a joke. But I can't sleep with my closet doors open. I don't know why. I think it has to do with the fact that in the dark, the inside of my closet looks even darker, and it's just creepy. But lets just go with the monster in the closet thing.

8.  Heights
I don't know if this is true. I love hiking and rock climbing (indoors, I've never done real rock climbing) so I've dealt with heights before. I think it's more edges. I don't really like looking over the edge. That sort of applies to my fear of bridges as well. If you can find it (I couldn't, but I didn't look very hard) you should listen to the Barenaked Ladies song "I Don't Like" because it talks about being afraid of edges just like me.

9. Ladders
I hate ladders. I don't even like step ladders. I don't like being on the first step of a tall ladder. I don't trust ladders. I feel a lot of my fears stem from my massive trust issues. I don't trust animals because I can't understand them, I don't trust bridges to keep me safe, I don't trust clowns to... not be creepy, and I really just don't trust ladders. (Ironically, my dad put a ladder in my room and it's sitting right across from me, in plain sight while I type)

10.  Falling
This kind of goes back to my fear of bridges, and heights, and ladders. I am scared of falling. I'm a ballroom dancer and the guys are supposed to lift us into crazy tricks, but I'm scared of it because of my fear of falling and my severe trust issues. My ballroom coach always makes fun of me for it. There's only one person on my team I would do lifts with, because he's big, a cute kindergarten class called him "The Beast". But even when he lifted me, my hands got all shaky. It's definitely one of my biggest fears because it holds me back from doing lots of things.

So there you have it, 10 of my fears. Sadly, I think that there are more. I just can't think of them right now. Actually I can think of a few more, I won't go into details, but here they are:

  • Slipping on ice
  • Hurting other people
  • Being laughed at
  • Haunted houses
  • Horror movies (since it's almost Halloween I'll be writing a blog post about my opinion on haunted and/or scary things)
  • Old people
  • Injuries
  • Stepping on gum (oh boy, I have lots to say about this...)
Thanks for reading!
