January Favorites [2016]

So we are bringing back monthly favorite posts this year! I will probably switch back and forth between a written post or a video post (like my 2015 favorites) to add a bit of variety and fun to these monthly posts. I have a better layout and categories so hopefully this year they won't be as sloppy...

However, today's is not going to be good at all. I just can't think of any favorites. But we'll go over a few things that have made this month great.

To start off, I'm going to make monthly playlists of the songs I've listened to most that month, or possibly themed playlists (like for Christmas). These will all be on my Spotify account, so be sure to follow me on Spotify to see my favorites throughout the month instead of just when I post it. I have a wide variety of music I love, so it's difficult to categorize what genre you'll see in these playlists. But for this month they are just recent favorites. So you can get listening to my favorites as you browse through the rest of this post.

(And I want to both warn you and apologize that this particular playlist is more calm/sad songs. I absolutely love sad songs, those are my favorite kind, but also it's been a difficult month for me.)

Firstly I want to talk about my favorite/most popular post on my blog this month, which would be "My Dog Almost Ate My Ultrasound Pictures Today". This was quite possibly the hardest post I have ever written. I don't believe I've ever been hysterically crying while typing up a blog post before, even when I talk about my depression. My miscarriage was the hardest thing I've ever had to face in my life and I'm still healing emotionally from it. Thank you to everyone who supported this post and supported me.

BEAUTY

I seriously cannot think of favorites for this month! But I can say I've been loving my new makeup routine. It's very dark around the eyes, but I'm obsessed. Also, all my makeup products are pretty amazing because a few weeks ago at work I cried for about an hour and a half and my super dark (slightly emo) makeup didn't smudge at all. I think they should make makeup commercials about women getting dumped and crying, because isn't makeup that stays what we're all really looking for?

MOVIES AND TELEVISION

This month I had the incredible opportunity to see Sherlock: The Abominable Bride in theaters. To be able to see a BBC television show that I'm obsessed with in a theater in my hometown was the highlight of my month (although I came home from that to Zoram almost eating my ultrasounds). It was so insanely good!!! I love Sherlock so ridiculously much!!!

This month I've also been able to see the latest seasons of New Girl and Parks & Recreation, as they were added onto Netflix. These are two of my favorite comedy shows and I love them both. Nick Miller is amazing, he's my favorite thing... like ever.

SHOUTOUTS

A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my mom today!! I don't know where I'd be without you! I love you so insanely much and hope you have the best birthday ever!!

Fiona M. wrote the most amazing comment on yesterday's post (How Social Anxiety Makes Me Feel). As I'm transitioning this blog to talk more about my mental health disorders, it is my sincere hope that something I say can help someone else. Fiona has already made me feel that way, and for that I am truly grateful. Love you Fiona!

Kate of Kate the (Almost) Great has been my teammate this past month. She was gracious enough to allow me to advertise this blog on her own blog, and she's been given me Twitter shout outs the past few weeks (and loving Zoram almost as much as I do). I truly love her blog and her, so please, please click the link to read about her. She's an incredible, strong, beautiful person, and she deserves all your love and kindness.

One last shoutout to all those who have added me on Snapchat because they want to look at Zoram. That's the trial of having the cutest puppy in the world I suppose. But if you would like to look at daily pictures and videos of Zoram (and some of Chris and myself too) you can follow me @cowgirlkaylee22.

Ugh. Sorry this post is so short and boring. I can't think of favorites, it's been a weird month. Please check out my Spotify, I've been going crazy making playlists lately and I personally think they're awesome. Don't forget to also follow me on all my social media, because I'm trying to post more on those.

Thank you for reading!!!

It's been a long, exhausting Monday and I have nothing of interest to say. So here's a video for your enjoyment.

Nick Offerman/Ron Swanson is the best. Chris wants to grow up to be just like him. Ha ha.

Style Icon: Zooey Deschanel/Jessica Day

Chris and I love New Girl. Like, a lot. We've seen each episode on Netflix multiple times and we still laugh every time. It's honestly one of the best shows. But as funny as it is, one of my favorite things about it is the dresses and other outfits Zooey Deschanel wears as Jessica Day.

Today's #FashionFriday post is not of me, but a combination of my favorite Zooey/Jess outfits, although their style is basically the same.

I love this style because it's very girly and fun. Having a job wear I get to wear a dress everyday has been ridiculously fun for me and I've realized how much I prefer wearing dresses to other clothes. Zooey's style is not only cute and girly, but it's also very casual and comfortable looking, which is always a plus. In New Girl she wears big glasses and anyone who knows me well knows that I'm obsessed with glasses, so I want them. I'm also in love with her hair. I've been considering getting bangs like hers, but I really can't decide. If you have an opinion on whether I should get bangs or not please leave a comment below, because I'm very conflicted on this decision.

It only seems fitting that with this post I introduce you to one of my favorite websites: What Would Zooey Deschanel Wear? Not only does it show you a collection of her outfits, it has links on where to get them or similar items! It's amazing to look at and makes me wish I had more money. So check it out because it's pretty much the greatest thing ever.

So anyways, please enjoy a collection of some of my favorite Zooey/Jess outfits. Have a lovely day and if you're participating in Fashion Friday, be sure to use the hashtag on social media so I can see all your styles!

Seriously though, could I pull off bangs like this?

Pinterest Project: Writing

Hello there! I have a new segment on my blog! Yay! This new segment is called Pinterest Projects and every month I will do at least one project of something I've pinned on Pinterest. If you know me, you know I'm addicted to Pinterest and pin a lot of things, but I never actually do anything with those pins. But this should change that. It can be a craft, recipe, cleaning or organization project, sewing, going on an adventure... anything really. And you can follow me on Pinterest HERE to see what types of things you'll probably see with this segment. I'm excited so here we go!

This first project though is a little vague and I can get into too many details. This past month though I have been working on my writing. I have a big writing project planned that will be starting up on this blog around June and it'll be awesome and terrifying but I'm so excited for you to finally read some of my fiction.

So for this Pinterest Project I built up my Writing Board on Pinterest and have started following tips and tricks for my writing. And while I can't tell you everything because it would ruin the surprises coming up, I can show you some of the pins that have helped me during this project.

I have a very sporadic style of writing and I can't focus on one chapter at a time. So I've been working a lot on outlining things so even when I skip a few chapters, I still know what those chapters are supposed to be like and what I want to do with them.

I've also dealt a lot with Writer's Block in the past (I'm sure you could tell because it affects this blog as well) so I've been pushing through and forcing myself to write, but not in a mean way. Even if it's just a few sentences, I make myself write each day. Progress is progress no matter how slow you're going.

I think that the best way to build my writing technique is by reading. But I don't read nearly as much as I should be. I'm always looking for new books and this was a great pin for me to help find new stuff.

And in case you're wondering, I think I was very first inspired by The Phantom Tollbooth . And I honestly can't tell you what it's about, I've long forgotten the details of it all, but I remember being a little girl reading this book in school and being transported to a different world and I wanted to do that. I wanted to make my own world. I had a big imagination as a child, and still do, and all of that is what goes into my writing. I think The Phantom Tollbooth really sparked my imagination.

I'm also in love with Romeo and Juliet , and I get questioned about it a lot because it is a tragedy and it's Shakespeare so it's complex, but I honestly love a good tragic romance. Real life isn't all fairy-tales and that's what Shakespeare taught me and I love it.

I have a blog post about the 10 most important books in my life and you can find that HERE

"Don't just start stories, FINISH THEM." I started typing up stories on the family computer when I was pretty young, and I never finished a single one. This has always been my problem and it's something I've been working on the past few years as I try tackling multiple books at once, and fail. Currently I'm focusing on one thing at a time and it's making the writing process easier for me.

I first read these Pixar rules for storytelling about a year ago and I was blown away. This is honestly the greatest writing advice I've ever been given and I've worked hard to double check my writing to see if it's following these rules.

I'll admit a Tumblr post about Sherlock is a weird thing to put on my Writing Board, so let me explain a bit. Firstly, I'm obsessed with Sherlock . I've seen every episode multiple times and I'm constantly looking up things like this on Pinterest. But this post really stood out to me as a writer because I want my writing to be as good as Sherlock. I want depth in my relationships, in actions and decisions, in everything really. I swear every time I watch Sherlock I catch something I didn't before and that's what I want from my writing and something I strive for.

I used to resist advice. I was always writing for me and didn't want other people telling me how to do it. But that's the thing, I can still be myself and take advice like this. It will only improve me.

Lastly, I've had to recognize that this is a long and difficult journey to get to where I want to be. I have high expectations for myself but I will only be able to achieve them if I take it one step at a time.

I've always loved writing and I'm so excited to start sharing my writing with you (hopefully June). Don't forget to follow my blog and social media so you can be the first to know what it happens.

Tooth Pain

So it's been a while since I've written something real. This blog used to only be about me telling stories and venting to you, but a lot has changed on this blog recently. I love the new changes, but I still want it to be the way it was. So today I'm venting to you.

For the past three days I've been in constant pain because my wisdom tooth is attacking me. I just need to get it taken out right away because it seems as though the pain won't stop until I do. Unfortunately my dental insurance doesn't start till Wednesday (although, I'm pretty lucky it's that soon considering the alternatives). But I haven't been sleeping because I wake up in pain and I can't eat hard things... or anything... And I'm basically living on pain killers.

So that's the excitement of my life.

I've been working a lot of overtime lately. We've basically been living paycheck to paycheck which means something like needing to get my wisdom tooth removed is impossible financially. But we've figured something out to make to work this time and I've been putting in a lot of overtime to get some extra money.

Chris has been applying for jobs and internships lately. We had a plan that I would work and he would focus on school, but while we've been able to get along fine that way, it's still been difficult. Chris finding a job will definitely help out. He had a big interview for the Deseret News, which would be awesome since his major is journalism. That's what we're hoping for even if it means we have to be apart for the summer since it's in Salt Lake.

I love my job. I feel like I don't get to tell ya'll enough how much I love my job. But I really truly do. It can be stressful and people make mistakes, but it's amazing. I have great work friends and we have lots of fun together in and out of work. I'm honestly so grateful I found this job that's so amazing to me.

I've been doing really well, been keeping myself busy, but happy. As I've said so many times before, I have a goal to do the things that make me happy. And while I can't afford to do some of the things I want to do, I've been keeping myself happy doing other things just at home. It's been good and even though I haven't been blogging as much, which makes me sad, I happy with the way my life is going.

We've been watching Chuck a lot lately. It's awesome and we like it a lot. Thanks to my sister for sort of introducing it to us!

I don't have anything else to say. But thanks to my loyal readers for all the love and support you give me. You're all amazing and I love you all. So thank you!

Random Thoughts

Sometimes I just like to write random thoughts that pop into my head, because... why not.

-I miss my beta fish. Juan and Sassy. They were awesome and then I gave them to my brother out of kindness and because I knew they wouldn't survive the trip to Texas, and within a month he killed them both. He told me Sassy died through a Snapchat and never told me Juan died. Stupid Snapchat. I had ten seconds to see my gay fish for the last time...

-I keep forgetting my new address. But give me a break. Chris and I have been married a year and a half and this is our fourth apartment. UGH! As much as I want to move out of Logan, I also don't want to move again for a while.

-Lately I've been obsessed with New Girl, because it's awesome. My favorite quote from this show is: "I just want to listen to Taylor Swift alone." Story of my life. :) But I also love Zooey Deschanel. She might be my next "Style Icon" on this blog.

-Speaking of Taylor Swift, I don't believe I've mentioned on this blog just how OBSESSED I am with her new song. And the music video. She's such an awkward dancer and I love it. And I know this song came out months ago and she just released a newer one, but still so obsessed. Taylor Swift will always be one of my favorites.

-I also don't believe I've mention specifically on my blog that my brother-in-law is getting married next month. It was on my Twitter and Instagram and maybe my Facebook, but I don't think I put it on the blog. Remember last year when I posted about my "new brother"? Well it's that brother, Sheldon. He's marrying this girl named Aubrey who is awesome and we're already like sisters and I helped her pick out her wedding dress and she is going to look FABULOUS!!! Seriously, that dress is amazing on her. Sheldon and Aubrey are also the newest members of "the dancing cow family" (AKA, liking my Facebook page), so they deserve a shout out for their awesomeness. Thank you!

-I just really want to dye my hair. I messed it up and it turned red and now my roots are growing in and it looks weird. I have a $50 gift card that can be used at over 100 spas and salons across the U.S. but none of those are in Logan. So lame. So either I have to pay full price and use my gift card at a later date or drive to Ogden to get my hair done, but with gas money I'm pretty sure that just makes it cost more. So annoyed right now.

-I love Lego video games. I played Lego Star Wars for like... two weeks, and now we're on the Lego Movie Lego game. It's awesome.

-I miss Avatar. Not the stupid blue people movie which I hate, Avatar: The Last Airbender. I watched two episodes last night and I'm just sad that it doesn't really exist anymore. Because honestly, that it one of the greatest shows there ever was and it's my favorite. It will always be one of my favorites and I am going to raise my kids to watch it all the time. In fact, it may be the only show I'll allow them to watch.

-I love fall!! But it's always so short in Utah I don't get to fully enjoy it before the snow comes. But I just love pumpkins. We bought a little pumpkin and it's adorable and I love it.

-Well I don't really have any more random thoughts for today. I think I'm going to go shopping now. And by shopping I mean, explore the mall and not spend any money.

Style Icon: The Kardashians

This summer I became kind of addicted to watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians. I'm only slightly ashamed. Honestly it's funny, okay, some of it is totally staged and I think it's funny. But also, it makes me want to be rich and steal their closets, because they dress wonderfully.

I cannot chose a specific a specific Kardashian to highlight in this post, so this post is about all of them. They always look classy and rich even when sometimes they're just wearing a plain t-shirt. Sure they have expensive tastes that I will never be able to afford, but some of what they wear could be able to find in cheaper places. Those are the outfits I'm going to highlight today.

I think I like Kortney the best actually. I love how she's a mother and has a little family and she seems to dress more casual than her sisters.

One of the main reasons I love the Kardashians is because they aren't your typical stick-figure celebrities. They have butts, they have boobs, and they aren't afraid of their curves, they flaunt them and it's gorgeous! Honestly, Kim and Khloe may not be the best role models in their life decisions all the time, but I would feel a lot better about the world if more girls aspired to look like the Kardashians and not be afraid of flaunting their curves.

Cue mine and Chris's new favorite song:

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the Kardashian version of my style icons. To check out my other style icons CLICK HERE. Sorry there were so many pictures! They are just too fashionable!!

June Obsessions

Typically I do Monthly Favorites posts but since I'm struggling with blogging lately I'm keeping this incredible short. However I may change it so all my Monthly Favorites are like this, more of a list rather than a lengthy explanation for things. Anyways here are my latest obsessions:

-Cinema Sins
-YouTube in general
-Wholly Guacamole
-Bejeweled Blitz (you guys, it's a literal addiction)
-Pokemon
-Not being sick, because currently I am
-Really Don't Care by Demi Lovato
-Demi Lovato in general
-I finished the Divergent series and I can't decide what to say about it... but I want to see the move again
-Catching Fire, just want to see it again!!!
-Taking baths or showers in the middle of the day
-Doing nothing the rest of the day
-Writing in my book
-Family Guy, sigh, I have a problem
-Lying out by my apartment pool
-Eating dried fruits
-Target
-Putting my hair in a bun... every day.
-Bumblebee from Transformers (honestly I have a crush on him, it's totally not weird...)
-But not the new Transformers movie
-Texas thunderstorms (seriously, they are awesome and frequent)
-Getting too excited for the Forth of July even though I have to work (See below)
-Getting even more excited my family is coming to visit me in Texas!!!!
-Chris and I are now primary workers?
-Making money (which sounds petty but honestly we were really struggling before this)
-Sunshine and summertime!!
-Working on my beach body... and failing and eating donuts
-CHOCOLATE!!!

*About working on the Forth of July: I think it's wrong for things to be open on our Independence Day. We close everything for Christmas but we can't do it for the Forth of July? Jesus's birthday, yes, that's totally understandable. But America's birthday, where we gained independence to become a wonderful country that gives us so many opportunities... who cares leave everything open, make it seem like a normal day that isn't actually important in any way. I think everything should be closed on Independence Day, except of course the necessities. Just have fairs and celebrations, make it one big party!! Exploiting Independence Day for sales is awful. I know I'm being kind of weird but I just generally hate the fact that America doesn't respect itself enough to make Independence Day more important. It seems to me like it should be much more important.

May Review

I debated on doing a review this month, but when I realized it was suddenly the end of the month and I hadn't written like any blog posts I felt like I needed to get a review done to kind of explain where I've been.

So if you've been completely out of the loop, I am now in Texas. My husband decided to take a summer sales job here so we packed up the car and moved to San Antonio, well technically right outside of San Antonio. It was so crazy the drive here took us three days (because we chose to stop each night) and then we got here and had to sleep on someone's floor, and then I got offered a job as an office help for the company Chris is selling for and then our lives just turned into working like crazy.

Okay, I only work three days a week so that was kind of a lie, but it is for eight hours a day which is much more than I've been doing in the past. Chris on the other hand works six days a week... all day. I pretty much only see him for dinner, sleep, and on Sundays. He does get off a bit earlier on Saturdays but we've been hanging out with his new work team so we haven't had a ton of alone time.

May 11th was our one year anniversary!!! I honestly am still in shock we've been married a year. Time has literally flown by! We didn't do much to celebrate. We decided not to do gifts and we just wrote letter saying why we love each other. We read them to each other and it was just really sweet and a memorable moment.

And then the month disappeared. I worked out a lot, until recently. I'm working on losing some weight this summer. I want to lose enough to fit back into my wedding dress, that's the goal. And I have been working on a special project but I'm not ready to reveal that to the world because it still has a lot of work to go through. But actually, this "special project" is part of the reason I haven't been blogging on here as much, so I do apologize.

I feel like we're finally making money instead of digging ourselves more and more into debt. It's been fantastic! Sure we still have a lot of money in student loans to pay off, but this summer we're just working hard to create a stable financial base for ourselves, and it's been working really well in our favor.... and thank you so much to the company we work for for paying our rent, because I don't know if we could afford this awesome place without you!

Oh! I've been obsessed with Pokemon lately. Yes, I'm such a dork, but I watched something scary and Chris was sleeping so I wanted to watch something silly to help me forget the scary thing and Pokemon was the first thing I saw, and I've always been secretly in love with Pikachu so I decided to give it a shot. And now I'm obsessed. I even bought myself a plush Pikachu online. Literally obsessed.

I'm going to try to take more pictures, I don't know why I haven't been, Texas is gorgeous, so hopefully you'll be seeing more pictures of our new home up on the blog soon.

Alright, was there anything else? Not that I can think of. Well, this review is short and sweet, but so was the month of May for me. Thank you for reading and have a fabulous day!!

One Years Worth of Marriage Tips, Tricks, and Advice

It's my anniversary month! I wanted to put up this post closer to my anniversary, but this particular post has taken me months to create and it has been delayed. But it's still May, still my anniversary month, so here it is!

No, I did not document my first full year of marriage the way I probably should have. But I have worked hard in the past year to show my love for my husband and to build our relationship. We've been through trials, we've been through changes, things weren't always the way we thought they would be. But we learned how marriage works together and marriage has been the greatest blessing of my life. Note: Just because I wrote all these down doesn't mean I'm perfect and follow every last tip, I'm not perfect and still have things to work on.

(PS, there is a very good chance the pictures won't all show up, I apologize for that but I don't think I'm going to take the time to fix them if they end up not showing. I'm trying to get ones that work but just know that there's a possibility of a blank picture. I also apologize for any grammatical issues, but again, not going through and fixing them.)

So, here is a years worth of marriage tips, tricks, and advice... 365 days worth... A lot... As in, the longest blog post of my life... yeah... you don't have to read it all in one sitting.

  1. Don't forget the kisses everyday!!
  2. When you burn the food, laugh.
  3. "Oh money, where did you go? Maybe we should keep track..."
  4. Changes happen... again and again and again and again.
  5. I think even grownups need a time-out sometimes.
  6. "How dare you do this! I'm so mad at you! [Insert How I Met Your Mother Quote here]" Laughter ensues, argument over.
  7. "I want to do this." "And I want to do this." Always make decisions together.
  8. .....
  9. Relax and take a trip, get away from being an adult.
  10. "Aww man, we eat out too much I'm getting fat!" You put on the weight together, take it off together. Gym time together can be super fun!
  11. Balancing school, work, homework, and life in general is difficult, but always, always, ALWAYS make your spouse your main priority.
  12. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made.
  13. When you watch a couple enough on TV, sometimes you start acting like them, and there is nothing wrong with that.
  14. Date nights become fewer, but sometimes that makes them all the more special.
  15. Your in-laws can be family too and you can learn to love them as much as your own family.
  16. Sometimes Little Caesars Pizza is the best "going out to eat" can offer.
  17. Just hold your spouse for a minute a day. Just hold them and let them know you'll always be there for them.
  18. ...
  19. Love is meant to make you feel happy and wonderful. Accept it.
  20. Stop looking for the negative, every day find another positive.
  21. ....
  22. Have confidence in your spouse and they will return the favor.
  23. Make a cake, celebrate!
  24. How do two people use so many dishes???
  25. "I don't want to clean." "Me neither." "Let's make a game out of it!!!"
  26. Act like a child sometimes. If it's real love, your spouse will allow it.
  27. You don't have to be exactly the same and like all the same things all the time... that just sounds exhausting.
  28. A Disney movie sing-along and some popcorn is an excellent date night.
  29. Marrying a fisherman means fish for dinner.
  30. And marrying a man who can cook fish very well is a good idea... because I dislike cooking. So I'm so grateful Chris can do it and do it well.
  31. ...
  32. Sometimes you have to remind your spouse how sexy you can be. And slutty. But you're married so it's okay.
  33. Car rides can be the absolute funnest thing with your spouse! Sing-alongs, car games, and long talks. Best thing ever!
  34. Take time to step out of your comfort zone and do something the other one likes. Don't hide in your shell.
  35. My husband is a soccer player and he's obsessed with the sport. He can tell you almost all the players in the EPL, he always knows the most current stats and news. Sometimes it can be hard with him always looking up soccer news on his phone, but when I go to his soccer games I can see that it's all just for the love of the game and it's so incredible seeing how happy it makes him. I'm proud to support my husband in something he loves.

Style Icon: Lily Aldrin

Chris and I have been watching How I Met Your Mother for a long time. And I've talked about it a lot on this blog  like in my Top 10 Reasons I Love HIMYM, and if you look at the last one, main reason I love the show is Lily's outfits.

Seriously if I could raid Lily Aldrin's closet, I totally would. I pretty much love everything she wears ever. (Except her whale costume in the final episode last week. That was just plain awful.) So while I'm hoping to do future "Style Icon" posts on my blog, I absolutely knew I had to pick Lily first. Yes, she is a fictional character, but she truly is an inspiration for my personal wardrobe.

I love how Lily can dress up and dress down but still look comfortable and cute. She wears lots of bright colors and patterns that really add excitement to her wardrobe. She's a kindergarten teacher, which is the career path I'm looking towards, and she dresses nice while still wearing clothes that are easy to move and take care of kids in. Even her maternity wardrobe is adorable! I'm also in love (most the time) with Lily's hair. It always looks super cute. I especially like it in season 2 and the final few seasons.

I cannot say enough good things about Lily Aldrin's style. It's totally an inspiration for me as I'm trying to find my own style and buy a new wardrobe. Her's is always my favorite and so I'm happy to publish her as one of my "Style Icons".

(Favorite wedding dress ever! I even think I like it better than mine.)

(This one is Alyson Hannigan, not really Lily, but I totally love this outfit! Maybe I'll do a separate post about Alyson Hannigan, because I do love her and her personal style as well.)

(It's cheesy, I know, but I totally want these sweaters for Chris and I.)

(Okay, this one is totally a joke. I do not like this dress.)

But I think what I like most of all is her perfect relationship with Marshall. And I don't mean perfect in the sense that everything is always good, but perfect in the sense that they are the most realistic couple on television because they truly get along and they fight but are able to deal with their fights. Basically I love Lily and Marshall and think Chris and I have a similar relationship. And Lily and Marshall are the only thing I'll miss now that the show is ended.... especially after the final episode where everyone else in the gang just forgot everything they learned over nine seasons and reverted back to who they were in the very first episode. Ugh. I don't think I'll ever get over how mad that last season/finale made me.

Anyways, that was a whole lot of pictures! But I hope you enjoyed them! And if you got down to the end here, congratulations! And don't forget to read my other fashion posts found HERE
