Just For the Laughs -Blogtober Day 5

Who dislikes Mondays? I sure do. So here are some of my recent favorite funny posts from Pinterest, just so we can all have a little laugh on a Monday.

For reals, go visit This Is Actually How To Train Your Dragon right now!! It was created by the same people in charge of the CinemaSins YouTube page, which I love, and it's a fake/real website to teach us all how to train our dragons. It's funny and awesome and just check it out.

(If you don't know this is George RR Martin, and if you don't know Game of Thrones you probably don't get the joke, but I think it's funny.)

(Chris and I now say this all the time.)

(Beware, this next one has some bad swear words. Sorry!!)

Pinterest Sunday: DIY, Foods, Neon, Cruel, Disney, Pink, Pinwheel, Roadtrip, Scriptures, Disney Parks, and Phoebe

This week I've pinned a ridiculous amount of clothing/fashion pins because I just want to shop and I'm so sick of my current wardrobe.... but I am going to save most of those pins for a Fashion Friday post this week. So stay tuned for all of those and I hope you enjoy this Pinterest Sunday post!

As one of his Christmas presents, I promised my husband I would make a board/frame thing for the pictures of fish he catches. I had a pretty good idea in mind but then I saw this and knew I have to do this! But I could use like fishing wire and hooks! It'll be great! Stay tuned for a tutorial and video on it when I finally get around to making it.

New Year, new me. I'm trying to lose one pound a week up  until my one year anniversary, because then I'll be at my wedding weight (yes I strayed that far off in the last 8 months). So I'm always looking for healthy foods and ways to lose weight.

P.S. -I am already behind. I got sick so I didn't go to the gym at all last week and we still have tons of left over candy from Christmas (I have a theory that Santa gives us all so much candy so he doesn't feel as overweight himself) but this week I'll be starting a new routine (even though I still feel sick) and I'll be writing about it on here soon.

Web Video Wednesday: Evolution of Dad Dancing

I don't know why I find this video so funny, but I do. I've been watching a lot of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon videos on Youtube lately because he's just so funny, so I almost chose a Late Night Hashtag video, Evolution of Mom Dancing, or Tight Pants. It was a hard decision but I ultimately landed on this (but not exactly since you can just click on the links and watch them all because I'm so kind).

Out of the Mouths of Babes

Working in a daycare is literally the greatest thing in the world! I get to play with little kids and hear all the exciting and hilarious things they have to say. Kids are known for always saying crazy things, hence my favorite commercial was born:

Or that old Bill Cosby television show:

Which, as a side note, why can't more TV nowadays be like this? Non-violent humor. I love it!

Today at my other job I was testing a 6th grader, so he was probably 11, maybe 12. The question went something like this:
"Utah lawmakers are considering changing the age in which a citizen can get a drivers license from 16 to 18. Please write a paragraph arguing if you think this is a good idea or not. Include three different reasons." ...something like that...
So the student I was working with began to write. Instead of writing a paragraph, he wrote this:

"It should be 15!
Reason #1 we want to drive!
Reason #2 what if you got a girlfriend but can't date away from home!?
Reason #3 parents to sick to take u to the amusement park!"

:) Now I love his answer! Seriously! What if you had a girlfriend but couldn't date away from home? That's a huge dilema! It's a very serious issue with kids these days. Especially in Utah where about half the population is LDS and they aren't allowed to date until they are 16 anyways. But that's fine, I totally understand his reasoning.

And reason number 3 is very serious as well! I mean, 15 year old NEED to go to the amusement park! They have to be able to drive themselves because if their parents are "to sick" then everything will just fall apart!

I think the lawmakers in Utah should really look at these reasons and consider changing the age to 15. Because these reasons are totally legitimate  ;)

I was testing this little girl today and she was all excited, "It's April Fools Day!" then she paused a moment. "What does that mean?" And I sat there. Because even though I've lived through 22 April Fools Day's, I don't know how to explain what it is to a 9 year old. Pathetic, I know. So if you know an answer I could have given her, let me know for next year.

I love working with kids!!

The Benefits of Vaseline

I just bought a HUGE jar thing of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly because I use it for so many things! And I had this little jar thing of it that fits in small places because it's cute and little and it lasted me over a year despite its small size.

So my little one was running out so I decided today to put some from my huge jar into my little one, because I love how the cute little one is much more portable. So instead of being delicate about the process and melting it so it's easier to transfer the jelly... I just stuck my finger right in the big jar and started scooping it out.

IT WAS THE MOST FUN EVER!!!

I know that makes me sound slightly crazy, but it really was so much fun!!! Apparently I just get easily excited and little things are my favorite... like moon sand! I found my moon sand today whilst cleaning some drawers out. Moon sand rocks.

So because of this experience I'd like to share my favorite uses for petroleum jelly!

1. Chapped lips.

This is why I started using Vaseline in the first place! Every night I put Vaseline on my lips to help keep them very soft. Chris makes fun of me for the large amount of Vaseline I put on them, but it helps, so he really shouldn't complain.

2. Cuts and burns

I love this because it's a cheap way to help heal your smaller injuries. It really has helped some cuts that I've had. It helps them heal faster and keeps it protected.

3. Dry skin

Like with your lips, Vaseline helps a lot with dryness. I particularly use it for the back of my hands, but then I end up washing it off too soon sometimes. But it creates very smooth skin. It also does not clog pores, so don't worry about spreading it all over your face.

4. Thicker eyelashes

I recently learned this trick, so now every night when I'm putting Vaseline on my lips, I also put some on my eye lids, and it really has made a difference in the way my eyelashes look. Sometimes if I want my mascara to really stand out, I'll put a little Vaseline on before applying mascara. It make a great difference.

5. Keeping in the lines when applying nail polish

A lot of members of my dad's side of the family have these tremors things which make our hands shake a lot. I don't have it as badly as some other people in my family, but my hands still get pretty shaky. Especially when I'm concentrating on doing something delicate with my hands (which kind of really sucks). So when I try to paint my nails, it gets all over my skin! But I learned to put some Vaseline around your nail before painting them so when it gets on your skin, it's so much easier to get off. Just don't get it on your nail because then it doesn't stay as well.

6. Scent sticking

If you put on a little Vaseline in the areas you spray your perfume, it helps your scent to stick around longer. Which can be a very good thing. Keep in mind though that Vaseline makes your skin very shiny, so don't use a ton or it could look weird. Unless you want shiny skin.

7. Makeup removal

This trick is fantastic because some makeup removal products seem to dry out my skin, but Vaseline specifically helps smooth your skin! It works really well in makeup removal, but I don't use it for that trick very much.

8. Pumpkin carving

After your carve your Halloween pumpkins, rub some Vaseline around the edges, it helps keep it from rotting or getting dry.

The above list is all things that I have tried before. But it has more uses found here. I am particularly interest in the "removal of eyelash glue" because in ballroom I wear fake eyelashes much too often and I hate taking them off.

I hope this helps you! Vaseline always helps me in many ways. And as a fun tip, just sticking your finger in a big jar of it feels really cool. :)

The Healing Power of Showers

(I originally came up with this post like 5 days ago (in the shower) but didn't get the chance to write it till now. So keep in mind that "like 5" days ago I was very much sick and it was thought up much better then... this post is just a mess, you don't even have to bother reading if you don't want to. I won't be offended.)

So I love showers! I just do. I take at least one shower a day, but often times I'll take more than one. Especially when I'm in school. When I'm stressed with homework or sad about anything, I hop in the shower. Last school year I'd randomly take a shower at like 1AM for no reason. I just wanted to shower. And seriously, I think up half my blog posts while in the shower. It really helps me think for some reason... too bad I can't take my homework in there...

But last week when I was sick, one particular day I felt AWFUL!! I thought I was going to die. I was coughing so hard it hurt my stomach and ribs, I was stuffed up, was getting a headache, and was also working. I hated it.

So I took a shower.

I swear, as soon as I hopped in the shower, I stopped coughing! The hot water felt wonderful and relaxing... it was magical.

So since I think showers are magical, I decided to do some Google searches to see if showering really does have benefits (besides the obvious cleanliness one). I was shocked to find that the majority of what I found pointed to cold showers! I never take cold showers, I hate cold... but after what I read maybe I should try it.

So I found online at "Art of Manliness" that take a warm shower then switching it to cold at the end is sometimes called a "Scottish Shower" (which I'm sure my fiance with love) and it has lots of benefits (and James Bond is known for doing it).

Here are their seven health benefits of a cold shower:

  • Improves Circulation
  • Relieves Depression
  • Keeps Skin and Hair Healthy
  • Strengthens Immunity
  • ... increases testosterone...
  • Increases Fertility...
  • Increases Energy and Well-Being
(keep in mind this was a "mens" website)

Okay... so I have depression, I love my hair, I have a horrible immunity system, and I always think I need more energy. Why has no one told me this before?? Seriously! If this is all true, I need to work on this.

Another website informed me that this "cold shower" only has to take like 10 seconds. Some time for the front and some for the back. And just that 10 seconds will help you to get used to the cold, not just in showers, but in everyday life. "Your ability to withstand cold with increase dramatically."

My fiance loves fishing. He also loves jumping in the lake, river, or wherever we're fishing to swim around. That water is always cold. But supposedly, if I do these cold showers, I'll be used to it, and be able to tolerate it much easier.

Is that true for my tolerance of the cold temperatures in Logan???

Don't worry, I also learned about hot showers as well. The top five benefits of hot showers (according to Philanthropy) are as follows:
  • Cleaner Pores, Cleaner Skin
  • HSP (Heat Stress Proteins) -A More Resilient Body
  • It Relaxes You
  • Relieving Muscular Aches and Speeds Up Recovery
  • It Builds a Better Body
These ones weren't as straight forward as the other one... You may want to click on the link above to read about them yourself.

Basically both hot and cold showers have wonderful benefits for the body! And regardless, I still love showers. I think they're fantastic. In fact, I'm going to take one right now. Thanks for reading!

Month of Gratitude: Day 24

Today I am grateful for Friends. And by Friends, I mean the TV show, not my actual friends (even though I am grateful for them, but they aren't what I'm writing about today).

I love Friends! I think it's the best! It always makes me laugh and I love that TBS and Nick at Night always play Friends so I can watch it. I have yet to see all the episodes but I hope it will happen soon. Chandler is funny. I like it.

Well, back to work till midnight!

Products That Just... What?

I love exciting new inventions and products that make our lives better and easier. Example, I'm in love with my Kindle Fire. It's incredibly useful and just fun. But there are some new things that I just... what? Really? Can they be serious? So here's my list of weird inventions, products, technology, etc.

1. The Facekini

Okay, I barely even have words for this one. Seriously? Someone thought this was a good idea? Apparently it's the new thing on China beaches (article found here: http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2012/08/22/facekini-craze-takes-over-beaches-in-china/ ). My favorite part of this article is this:
"Note: the Facekini is also just the ticket if one is going straight from the beach to a bank robbery."
Do people really want to wear that to a beach? The colors make it beautiful and all... no... still not beautiful. Quite honestly, it creeps me out. But hey, if you're really that afraid of getting sunburnt or skin cancer, it's quite useful.

2. Bathmat that turns red when wet

Okay, this one makes me laugh, and is actually pretty cool. But red? Red is one of my favorite colors and all, but this seriously looks like blood. You could really freak someone out I guess...

3. Picnic Pants: For When Eating Off Your Crotch is Something You Want to Do

I swear I'm not making this stuff up. Sometime I worry about the laziness in America (and other places around the world). You can't balance a plate on your leg? You need pants to hold your plate in place? Oh, okay...? It's only a bonus that it's super fashionable as well.

4. The Defibrillator Toaster

This one is awesome. I don't really have words for it. I think it's funny.

5. Shark Pillow/Sleeping Bag

I like this one too. How fun would that be for little children? It's also great for teaching your children that sharks are nothing to really fear. Ha. But it looks like it would be comfortable...

6. AB Hancer

Ha ha. I don't have much to say about this one either. It's just too funny! This should be my new workout plan to get my six pack!! ;)

7. Honda Uni-Cub

Oh wow! How fun is that! You know what it reminds me of? The chairs for all the fat people in Wall-E.

The article I read about this product even said that Honda is supporting a fat future (found here:http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7-57434692-48/honda-uni-cub-promotes-our-fat-lazy-future/?ttag=fbw). This are a bit better than the chairs in Wall-e, I guess, I mean they aren't as big, they don't have all these technological advances that make us just incredibly lazy. But there are others that are more like the Wall-e chairs.

8. Sleeping Bag

This one is great! On camping trips you can just wear your sleeping bag as your pajamas! And if you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, no messing around with zippers trying to get out of your bag, just take it with you!! If I had this, I'd wear it around campus, just to see people's reactions. And then I could just fall asleep anywhere in my handy dandy sleeping bag!

9. Full Body Sweater

So I go to Utah State in Logan, Utah and the winters there are really cold. Like really cold. I lose motivation to go to class because I don't want to brave the cold. So this would be kind of nice on those cold nights... but really... I would never wear that. Why? Because I'm not an alien.

and here comes my favorite...

10. The Hawaii Chair!!!

Now I can't say much more than what you see in this video. So here you go. Shout out to Ellen!!

SINGLE vs Single...?

This post comes about because of two incidents. The first being the 500 friends of mine who have gotten married this summer... okay, that was a lie. It's only been 13. But most of them have been in the past two weeks. The second reason was that I was filling out my W4 form for my new job and had to answer a question: Single or married?

Now I've written on this blog before about my boyfriend. He's amazing. I can't imagine anyone more perfectly suited for me. We fit perfectly (it's only a bonus that he's very attractive). We're very happy together... blah, blah, blah. I don't really want to go on about how great we are anymore... because of what I'll be writing during the duration of this post. But here's an image of us just to get your imagination going:

Ha ha, you probably thought I would put a serious picture. You thought wrong. (Shout out to Utah State!)

So anyways, the real point of this post is this:
I don't know what's more difficult, being on Facebook as a single, or being on Facebook "in a relationship".
This is a ridiculous amount of options...

So Facebook has this new "fabulous" thing where on the side of your "Home" wall, it will tell you everyone's birthdays, upcoming events... and who got married recently. On mine, the names there have changed basically every 2 to 3 days for the past two weeks. So I'm not that old, I'm 21, however I am from Utah. And I've come to find (or rather heard) that Utah relationships are weird. For example:
Story 1: My freshman year of college I had a psycho roommate. Okay fine, she wasn't really psycho, but the way she freaked out the entire duration of Princess and the Frog in the movie theaters was very odd. She was just awkward and odd. Anyways, she met a guy in January in institute (a class thing for LDS students, also available to non-LDS students, if you want more information or locations, please leave a comment!). They went on their first date at the end of March, April they started dating exclusively, and were engaged within two weeks. Two weeks? Seriously? But it gets better. He was gone on the East Coast for the summer, working. She stayed in Utah. Their original wedding date was set for November, but you know what, they decided against it and bumped it up to August. But wait a second... he's gone for the whole summer! He only gets back to Utah one week before the wedding! Whatever shall they do? Well obviously they had to PHOTOSHOP HIM INTO THE ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS. I'm not joking, kidding, or exaggerating in anyway. They NEVER got any engagement photos done and barely even had any photos together in the first place (probably from their lack of dating for very long). So they literally photo-shopped the entire invitation. I wish I could show you, but that's a bit too much of an invasion of privacy, so we won't do that. Moral of story: They got married really fast.
Story 2: This girl I know had a sister on an LDS mission. While on that mission, she met a fellow missionary and gave him her sister's address. So my friend (we weren't very close friends , more just Facebook friends type of friends) starting writing this guy half-way through his mission (you're all going to think all us LDS people are crazy, I swear we aren't!). So they wrote each other for a year (I actually think it was just six months, but I'm going to say a year just to make the story sound better) and when the guy came back they finally met for the first time. Apparently it was love at first sight. They immediately started dating, and within a month they were engaged. Four months later they were married (can I also add that in both of these stories, the girl was 19?). Moral of story: Another fast wedding and engagement.
So onto my story: I've been dating Christopher for nine months now (almost ten). We've basically known we were getting married since December and even started planning it for this November. But I still don't have a ring, we still aren't engaged. In fact, we don't even live by each other anymore. I live two hours away from him and it's terrible! More than that, I probably won't be getting a ring for a while considering I make more money than he does. But we are planning on getting married next May (after the world ends in December 2012, yeah, we're real thinkers).

Here's a real one for you. :)

Now I vividly remember the exciting days of being single and being on Facebook and watching once a week when new friends would get engaged or in relationships. It was terrible! My old roommate Lindsay complains about it all they time. She hates it! She says it's like a slap in the face. "Oh look at all the happy couples... and now look at you and your boring single life." (this is an exaggeration, Lindsay is the most socially active person I know, her life is loads of fun)

But quite honestly, I don't understand how my situation is any better. Everyday when I see all my friends getting engaged (younger than me, I'd like to add), it's like a slap in the face to me. I've been in a wonderful relationship for longer and I'm still not engaged. I don't know what's worse. And I don't like filling out a W4 form and checking the box that says "Single" when I'm not. It's as if it's not a real relationship unless we're married.

Facebook is ridiculous. It's always just there to make you jealous of all your friends and their happy lives. Whatever. Thanks Mark Zuckerberg! We really appreciate it! ;)

Other Blogs I Feel You Should Check Out

I love blogging! That might explain why my dashboard says I have four blogs (this one, my personal one, a wedding planner one, and a story one that hasn't fully developed yet (no peeking!!)). Beyond doing my own blogging, I like to look at blogs of other people. So I'm here to share a couple of my favorite blogs that I feel are worth checking out.

http://www.graspingforobjectivity.com/ This one is probably my favorite. It's like the blog that I wish mine was. This woman is funny and writes about normal everyday life. She goes to blogging conventions and such because her blog is so popular. Wish I was her. Check out her blog!

http://diaframpton.blogspot.com/ Does anyone else watch The Voice? If not, check it out, if yes then you may recognize Dia Frampton from season 1. I absolutely LOVE Dia Frampton, as does my boyfriend Chris. For Christmas this last year I gave him tickets to her concert and I got him her CD. She's very talented and has a very unique voice. Here, check out her music video:

I love this song! So good! But I vote you also check out her version of Heartless by Kanye West. This song really boosted her place on the show. I tried to find the actual video, but it's a little difficult.

Well anyways, the above link takes you to her blog, which I recommend checking out simply because she is just the kindest, sweetest person. She's incredibly talented and humble about it. Her concert was incredible.

http://imprimeleopard.com/ This one is cool because I grew up with this girl! This is a fashion blog and it's really cute. Kalee is a really nice, sweet, funny person and her blog is something that is very important to her. So definitely check it out!

http://www.iheartsaltlake.com/ This blog is way cool. You may have noticed I have their logo on the side of my blog as well! So I'm currently living in the Salt Lake area and this blog is fantastic for anyone in Salt Lake or Utah or anyone wanting to visit Salt Lake or Utah. I'm still trying to get on their "Local Blogs" page, but currently I'm happy just exploring their site.

http://littlebirdiesecrets.blogspot.com/ I found this blog just this week and what I've seen, I've liked. This blog has a lot of great craft and home decorating ideas, which I personally don't need right now, but I will in the future (nine months till my planned wedding!).

http://imalivewithnoregrets.blogspot.com/ She might not love me broadcasting her blog, but this is my old roommate and one of my best friends (and bridesmaid, she set me up with Chris, I owe her). She always makes me laugh and her blog is just fantastic. She hasn't written on it in a while and it's really just her personal life, but she always makes me laugh. So read it for a laugh or some fun. She's a really great person!

http://teachertakers.blogspot.com/ This blog is a lot of fantastic teaching tools! While I'm going into secondary education and this is for kindergarten, it does have a few things I can steal, and I find it great to hear her experiences with teaching. Hopefully when I get into teaching I can add my own teaching tips to this blog!

Well that's it for now. I know of more but they aren't very prominent in my life right now. Thanks for reading! I love my followers!!
