Making My Christmas Sweater!!

Alright, this isn't the best tutorial, and I didn't edit the photos (because I'm really lazy) so yeah... I'm not good at tutorials. I don't do them often for a reason.

So the Christmas tree I made is a just a removable patch type thing that I put on my shirt/sweater with safety pins. I liked this idea better than making a permanent Christmas sweater, for now, I do intend to make a really ugly one next year.

Anyways, here's the very basic steps to what I did.

Firstly are the things needed. I bought a paper sized sheet of felt, green ribbon, snowflake button embellishments, and fabric glue.

I started by cutting the felt into a triangle/Christmas tree shape. Then I began gluing the ribbon lengthwise along the tree, overlapping it and trying (but, as shown by the picture, failing) to keep them even.

Then I waited for a while because I didn't realize the glue I bought took 2-4 hours to dry. Ugh! I'm pretty sure a hot glue gun would have worked just as well as fabric glue and would have dried faster. But you can do what you want.

I don't have pictures for the next part. but I began to cut strips into the ribbon, like fringe. It was the most annoying part because I didn't have good scissors at first. I ended up using my kitchen scissors because they were much sharper than my kid scissors I usually use. I need craft scissors though. There are so many craft things I need...

The next step was gluing on the snowflakes. I was going to use rhinestones as sparkly ornaments for my tree, but I was super lucky to find these snowflake buttons that were actually much cheaper. I just glued them on in random places with the fabric glue. Honestly, this is the most obvious tutorial.

I loved the way it turned out!! Then I just pinned it onto my shirt with safety pins, but you could always glue or sew it on if you want it permanent.

I really did love how this turned out! I can't wait till I can finally make my ugly one, it'll be awesome. Just you wait.

Sorry this is such a simple tutorial, but it honestly was an incredibly simple craft and I loved doing it. I want to do more craft tutorials so that might be coming soon, we'll see.
Merry Christmas!

Pinterest Sunday: St. Patrick's Day

I pretty much don't do Pinterest Sunday anymore, but with a holiday coming up I decided it would be a good time to put up all my St. Patrick's Day pins! You can find my personal Pinterest page HERE and this blog's Pinterest page HERE

Well that's it I guess. I hope you all do something fun for St. Patrick's Day!

Web Video Wednesday: Valentine's Day

I found this video and thought it was super cute and the girl was super cute and I thought, "Hey, it's been a long time since I've done a Web Video Wednesday post, I might as well share this one." So here you go. Some more stuff you can do to celebrate Valentines Day with your loved one... or with yourself. I'm not judging. ENJOY!

Also I wanted to share another video that I found enjoyable, mainly for the number one spot. And it relates to my post tomorrow.

Pinterest Sunday: DIY, Foods, Neon, Cruel, Disney, Pink, Pinwheel, Roadtrip, Scriptures, Disney Parks, and Phoebe

This week I've pinned a ridiculous amount of clothing/fashion pins because I just want to shop and I'm so sick of my current wardrobe.... but I am going to save most of those pins for a Fashion Friday post this week. So stay tuned for all of those and I hope you enjoy this Pinterest Sunday post!

As one of his Christmas presents, I promised my husband I would make a board/frame thing for the pictures of fish he catches. I had a pretty good idea in mind but then I saw this and knew I have to do this! But I could use like fishing wire and hooks! It'll be great! Stay tuned for a tutorial and video on it when I finally get around to making it.

New Year, new me. I'm trying to lose one pound a week up  until my one year anniversary, because then I'll be at my wedding weight (yes I strayed that far off in the last 8 months). So I'm always looking for healthy foods and ways to lose weight.

P.S. -I am already behind. I got sick so I didn't go to the gym at all last week and we still have tons of left over candy from Christmas (I have a theory that Santa gives us all so much candy so he doesn't feel as overweight himself) but this week I'll be starting a new routine (even though I still feel sick) and I'll be writing about it on here soon.

Pinterest Sunday: Shirt, Money, Rebel, Glitter, Memento, Olaf, Hair, Psych, Motivation, Leggings, Red, Travel, Map, and Shrek

I don't really have an introduction for this post today. It's just another one of my Pinterest Sunday posts. But I hope you enjoy it!

This shirt is super cute! I've never been a fan of long sleeves. I'm wearing one right now and I have the sleeves rolled up because I just can't handle sleeves, I don't know why. So I'm not sure if this shirt would actually be practical for me but I think it's super cute.

I really love this list! It has a ton of really great ideas to cut spending, which I always need.

Is there anyone who doesn't like Rebel Wilson? She's so awesome! And I love Ellen so much as well. Best pin I've ever pinned. ;)

Umm, I super need this! I have a glitter obsession and I just want to glitter-ize everything!

I'm not a scrapbooker but I love to keep mementos from all my trips and general outings. I want to start doing this with all the fun things my husband and I do together.

Pinterest Sunday: Christmas Edition

It has been much too long since I've done a Pinterest Sunday post! But I'm excited to do this one because it all has to do with Christmas!! Christmas is coming up so soon and I'm not even ready for it! But it'll be great! It's my first Christmas as a married lady and we're super poor, but I really am excited to just spend some time with family and my wonderful husband. So anyways, here is Pinterest Sunday, Christmas Edition!

This awesome sweater is from Buzz Feed's 13 Ugly Holiday Sweaters That are Almost Too Ugly to Wear. I will be talking a bit more about holiday sweaters after Christmas and hope to make a good one next year.

I think that this is the cutest idea! And you just add hand prints with each new child or maybe evenwith a visitor. I think I'll be making this next year as a part of my new crafting segments I'm hoping to do.

I think this wreath is so adorable! This is another craft I'm hoping to pursue this next year. I'm so behind on my crafting, but with the move, lack of money, and school everything has been crazy lately.

This is adorable. I don't know where I would ever be able to put it but it's super cute and very do-able.

This is the cutest idea ever and I absolutely love it!! I didn't mean for all these pictures to be crafts because it's a little late for that at this point, so I do apologize, but I'll find some non-crafting pins from my Pinterest for the rest of this post.

Pinterest Sunday

I have been on Pinterest so much this week it's ridiculous! To see all my pins, feel free to CLICK HERE. Below are just some of my favorites from the week. Thanks for reading!

I would like to have a better job. That would be really nice for me. This article had some really good tips and it's a great reference for me for the future. To see the article CLICK HERE

I don't have the best GPA right now and yes, being married brings a bit more financial aid, but we could always used more money for college. This is a great resource because you don't have to have a fantastic GPA to apply to these scholarships.

I am NOT excited for winter to come, but I cannot get over how beautiful this picture is!

I really miss ballet. I'm hardly even flexible anymore. I just love this picture and like to look at it and wish I could be doing that again...

These are so simple and quick to do and can be incredibly effective! I'm sick of being at this weight, this is the biggest I've ever been in my life, so I'm working on changing that. These simple exercises are great for inner thighs, which are always a trouble spot for me. :)

I'm sick of going through a lot of cleaning on Saturdays and then letting everything pile up through the week. So I'm thinking of making a checklist/routine like this. This is a great example and something that I think would be great for my little apartment.

Halloween Decorating Under Ten "Bones"

So my husband and I are very poor. Not my Facebook "friends" version of poor where they complain about how little money they have but are always going on road trips in their nice expensive cars and Instagram-ing on their iPhones then head back to their beautiful home and/or apartment that they don't even pay rent for.

No, we are not that version of poor.

We are actually poor where the bank sends us notifications all the time asking us why our account is under, again. Yeah. Good times. We live off my husband's tip money so citizens of Logan, if you buy from Papa Johns PLEASE tip your drivers!!! We buy food with tip money.

Anyways, that was a rather lengthy and pointless tangent, the real point is that we're poor so we can't spend lots of money decorating for Halloween. But Halloween is my favorite holiday so I was very disappointed when I had this realization. Last year I made this fabulous pumpkin craft for my mom and decorated my parent's house but this year I have nothing? I was so upset!

So my wonderful handsome and generous husband gave me ten dollars (or ten "bones" as my work friend put it (it's punny because it's Halloween (it's not funny because I just explained the joke))) to spend on Halloween decorations! And even though ten dollars may not seem like a lot, I knew I could make it work, and I'm proud to say I did!

Let me just say that Dollar Tree is my friend (or Dollar ee, the lights are currently out). I know some of them aren't as great, the one by my parents house isn't that great but the one in Jackson Hole is fantastic, and the one here in Logan is pretty good. They have a whole Halloween section, but they also have other useful items.

Here is a complete list of the materials I used in decorating the outside of our apartment:

  • Black construction paper (available at most stores, fairly cheap, I already had some though)
  • Orange construction paper
  • Black table cloth (available at the Dollar Tree for one dollar, don't buy it at a party store!!)
  • Spider webs (the cotton-y stuff, available at the Dollar Tree for cheaper!!)
  • Styrofoam tombstones (found at my Dollar Tree, possibly not at all)
  • Black spider fence (found at my Dollar Tree, again, maybe not at all)
  • Chalk (I bought a 100 pack for $1 at Dollar Tree)
  • Scissors (already had some)
  • Tape (already had some)
So in total I paid:
  • $0 for construction paper
  • $2 for two table cloths (but I currently only used one)
  • $1 for spider webbing
  • $3 for three tombstones
  • $3 for fence
  • $1 for chalk
  • $0 for scissors and tape
...for a grand total of $10!!!

Let's get onto what I did. We have this fantastic dirt patch in front of our door (it has the potential to be a garden, but I didn't realize until halfway through the summer that I could plant things in it, so it just grew weeds, but we pulled those out recently so now it's just dirt, with a few weeds left). We were able to use this dirt patch for the tombstones and the fence. It looks fantastic!!

Then we have brick outside our door, so I covered all of it with the spider webbing. I freakin' love that stuff!! I'm pretty sure last year I paid like two or three dollars for one package, but I was so grateful Dollar Tree had it for cheaper! The package also came with four spider rings that I put in the webbing.

So, the tablecloth. I know you were probably curious about that one. While exploring the ever wonderful Pinterest, I found this webpage and knew I had to do something like this! It had no instructions with it though. I considered using construction paper, but figured that would just get complicated taping this together. So I had this brilliant idea to use one of those plastic tablecloths! I learned right away that you have to double layer it or it will just look see through.

I used the chalk to draw out what I wanted, then I cut it out with my scissors and taped it to the window! It was honestly that simple! And it turned out so much better than I had imagined! In the middle of the day when our blinds were open it was actually creepy to see a person in our window! I only used one of the tablecloths however, I have two other windows that I am considering making silhouettes for as well. Unfortunately that takes a bit of time and I honestly have none. So we'll see.

The actual first craft I did was making bats out of construction paper. It was super easy, just took some folding and cutting. I then taped the bats to the door, wanting to make it look something like this, and it worked out really well for me. If your door is likely to get hit by lots of rain or wind though, this might not be the best idea unless you laminate them. Mine have been up for a week though and been fine.

I also used construction paper to make a lovely "Happy Halloween" sign that I think is super cute (but I'm biased) and it just added a cute finished look to the door. It also made us seem less scary, which is good because we have a two year old living in the apartment right next to us.

At work my lovely coworker Todd said a fabulous sentence, "Speaking of dead things, I found something for you." (I think we were talking about dead cell phones) It was a creepy sentence and I was a little worried, but about ten minutes later he presented me with black mice cutouts, pumpkin pictures, and a Halloween... something... scarf? drapery? string? pom pom? snake? I don't know. I loved it all! Thank you Todd!! (Yes we're janitors, but he found them in a box that was going into the trash, it wasn't already in the trash.) I used the mice in the windows, I haven't yet found a use for the pumpkins or the... thing... but the mice are fantastic!

Below are all the pictures of my Halloween crafts and decorating (all spooky-ified)! I hope you enjoy them and get some ideas! I would love to see if you, too, can spend only $10 on Halloween crafts! Please leave a comment or email me so I can see your Halloween decorations too!!

Look, you can even see the witch in the window through the open door!! We loved the way this all turned out and hope you like it too! Holidays are so fun, but they don't have to break the bank! I hope you all find ways to celebrate Halloween under $10 as well!!

Pinterest Sunday: Candles, Star Wars Kids, Red Pants, Cashew Chicken, Bat-Cat, Pink Sparkles, Autumn, Snails, Cardigan, Tennis Shoes, Relief Society Binder, Carmel Highlights, Weed, and Choosing to Be Happy

New Years is on it's way, can you believe it's almost 2014?? I love the simple-ness of this craft! I'm also in love with glitter. This could also be done for other types of candles. Like a leaf for November or mistletoe for Christmas.

These are the cutest little Star Wars costumes!! I absolutely love it!

I love this outfit! Love love love!

I'm so in love with cashew chicken! It's one of my favorite things in the world. Yet I swear every Chinese restaurant I go to, doesn't have it and it makes me so depressed. I hope this recipe is good!

Cutest Bat-Cat ever! Happy Halloween!

This dress is fabulous! It's so me!

I love when the leaves change colors! It's my favorite time of year!
